Wray <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?c4949375\/fbi-director-wray-opening-statement-january-6-attack-capitol\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">called<\/a> the Jan. 6 protest at the U.S. Capitol, where some participants broke through police barriers and destroyed federal property, an act of \u201cdomestic terrorism,\u201d in March 2021. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/21\/new-york-times-extremist-right-newsletter-adl-violence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: New York Times Leaves Out Major Details In Piece Condemning Right-Wing Violence)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>None of the protestors committed acts meeting the legal definition of terrorism, Turley claimed.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Justice <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/07\/justice-department-proud-boys-enrique-tarrio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">handed<\/a> charges of seditious conspiracy and other offenses to key Proud Boys leaders on Monday related to their role in allegedly encouraging the protest that became a riot at the Capitol.<b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt does not belittle the horrible actions on that day to call them criminal rather than terroristic acts,\u201d said Turley. \u201cAs legally defined, I do not believe that the riot was an act of domestic terrorism and believe that such a sweeping characterization could be used against a host of groups across the political spectrum.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Turley made his remarks during a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.judiciary.senate.gov\/meetings\/examining-the-metastasizing-domestic-terrorism-threat-after-the-buffalo-attack\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hearing<\/a> \u201cExamining the \u2018Metastasizing Domestic Terrorism Threat After the Buffalo Attack.\u201d It addressed the \u201cexpansion of domestic terrorism investigations,\u201d according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/jonathanturley.org\/2022\/06\/07\/turley-testifies-in-the-senate-on-domestic-terrorism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement<\/a> published on Turley\u2019s personal website.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Republicans <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/26\/senate-republicans-rand-paul-block-domestic-terrorism-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">blocked<\/a> the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act, a Democrat-sponsored bill on May 26 that would open up offices in federal agencies dedicated to domestic terrorism.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Senate <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JudiciaryDems?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@JudiciaryDems<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenJudiciaryGOP?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@SenJudiciaryGOP<\/a> hearing on White Supremacy &#038; Domestic Terrorism Threat \u2013 LIVE on C-SPAN3 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/JCL95zr3OY\">https:\/\/t.co\/JCL95zr3OY<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/HC4SMOeagR\">pic.twitter.com\/HC4SMOeagR<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 CSPAN (@cspan) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cspan\/status\/1534174959819493376?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 7, 2022<\/a> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe use of terrorism laws for such violent protests is inimical to free speech,\u201d claimed Turley.<\/p>\n<p>The hearing took place in light of an attack where a self-described \u201cwhite supremacist\u201d and \u201canti-semite\u201d allegedly shot and <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/14\/buffalo-supermarket-mass-shooting-tops\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">killed<\/a> 10 people in Buffalo, New York, on May 14.
