The majority of San Franciscans held Boudin accountable for the city\u2019s skyrocketing crimes and the deterioration of the quality of life. The recall\u2019s success has significant implications for San Francisco and the rest of the country.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>1. Wokeness Gone Too Far, Even For Democrat Voters<\/h2>\n<p>Since elected San Francisco\u2019s DA in November 2019, Boudin has become the standard-bearer of the so-called progressive prosecution movement, which includes\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pasadenastarnews.com\/2022\/04\/14\/george-gascons-social-experiment-in-los-angeles-county\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Los Angeles County DA George Gasc\u00f3n<\/a>\u00a0(he previously served as San Francisco\u2019s DA),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/12\/25\/chicago-da-kim-foxx-ripped-as-soft-on-crime-following-mall-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chicago Cook County DA Kim Foxx<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/unsustainable-soros-backed-philadelphia-da-loses-hundreds-of-attorneys-in-first-term\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Philadelphia DA Larry Krasner<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/06\/08\/3-takeaways-from-the-successful-recall-of-san-franciscos-progressive-district-attorney-chesa-boudin\/Blaine%20Amendment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>These progressive prosecutors implemented radial policies in the name of criminal justice reform, including under-prosecuting or not prosecuting some criminals, not trying juveniles who committed violent crimes as adults and eliminating cash bailouts. They have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/abc7news.com\/san-francisco-da-chesa-boudin-sf-district-attorney-84-year-old-man-killed\/10381125\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">prioritized the needs and welfare of the criminals<\/a>\u00a0over that of the victims and the wider society. Consequently, crime rates in these cities have spiked, and perpetrators with long criminal histories continue to roam around cities and terrorize residents and businesses freely.<\/p>\n<p>Take San Francisco as an example. The city today has one of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.neighborhoodscout.com\/ca\/san-francisco\/crime#description\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">highest crime rates<\/a>\u00a0in America, and it is more dangerous than 97 percent of the communities in California. During the last Christmas shopping season, the open\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonherald.com\/2021\/12\/17\/graham-could-you-be-having-a-smash-and-grab-christmas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">smash-and-grab robberies of luxury stores in downtown San Francisco<\/a>\u00a0shocked the nation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Many San Franciscans reached a breaking point when Troy McAlister, who has a 25-year criminal history,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/abc7news.com\/sf-hit-and-run-san-francisco-hanako-abe-lawsuit\/10825960\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hit and killed<\/a>\u00a0two women in the city on New Year\u2019s Eve. Outraged, San Franciscans believed these women would have lived had Boudin sent McAlister to jail rather than let him go on parole in March 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Besides rising crime rates, people are concerned about the city\u2019s widespread drug problem. There were\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hoover.org\/research\/san-franciscos-progressive-drug-policies-kill-hundreds-annually\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">621<\/a>\u00a0drug overdose deaths last year, more than the city\u2019s covid-19 death toll. Yet,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sfstandard.com\/criminal-justice\/da-chesa-boudin-fentanyl-court-data-drug-dealing-immigration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">San Francisco Standard<\/a>\u00a0reported that Boudin had convicted no one for dealing the deadly opioid in 2021. Instead, he secured \u201cjust three convictions for \u2018possession with intent to sell\u2019 drugs: two for methamphetamine and one for a case including heroin and cocaine.\u201d Since many drug dealers in San Francisco are foreign nationals, Boudin chose not to prosecute so they wouldn\u2019t have to face deportation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The low conviction rate of drug dealing and other lenient policies implemented by the city\u2019s Democrat leadership have attracted drug users and drug dealers from all over the country to San Francisco. The city has more drug users than high school students. Residents do not feel safe walking downtown because there are used needles everywhere and open drug dealing for all to see. The drug problem has also worsened other issues in the city, i.e., the increase in the homeless population.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Boudin\u2019s recall signals that his soft-on-crime policies have gone too far even for most Democrat voters. Kit Lam, a volunteer for the recall campaign, said the victory of the recall showed that \u201cExtremism has no place in San Francisco.\u201d One recall supporter named Garry Tan told me that voters expect elected officials \u201cto faithfully perform the very basic functions of their offices. This public duty should always trump ideological crusades and personal political agendas.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Boudin\u2019s recall put progressive prosecutors who have implemented similar policies on notice. An effort to recall Los Angeles DA George Gascon is already underway because many Los Angeles voters blamed Gason for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lawenforcementtoday.com\/report-as-crime-continues-to-surge-in-la-people-speaking-up-now-that-its-hitting-wealthier-neighborhoods\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rising crime rates<\/a>\u00a0in their city. If other progressive prosecutors don\u2019t abandon their radical policies, they may have to face similar voter revolts in their cities and lose their jobs as Boudin did.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>2. The Democrat Party\u2019s Establishment Is Out of Touch\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>Boudin\u2019s supporters blamed Republicans for organizing and funding the recall campaign, but that couldn\u2019t be further from the\u00a0truth. Even the New York Times concluded that Boudin\u2019s recall revealed that \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/06\/05\/us\/chesa-boudin-recall-san-francisco.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Democrats are at war with themselves<\/a>.\u201d It was a war between grassroots and establishment within the Democrat Party.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It was moderate Democrats who led a grassroots effort to recall Boudin. Although the campaign\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/progressive-prosecutor-movement-tested-by-rising-crime-and-angry-voters-boudin-11654443234?mod=hp_featst_pos4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reportedly<\/a>\u00a0received some significant contributions from Republican donors, it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.safersfwithoutboudin.com\/endorsements\">said<\/a> that\u00a0over 80 percent of donations come from local San Franciscans. The majority of donors are either registered Democrats or have no party affiliations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But the city\u2019s Democrat Party establishment chose to stand by Boudin, even though multiple polls showed that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ktvu.com\/news\/close-to-70-of-respondents-say-yes-to-recall-boudin-recent-poll-shows\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">most San Franciscans<\/a>\u00a0supported Boudin\u2019s recall. He had the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/californiaglobe.com\/articles\/prominent-endorsements-fail-to-sway-sf-voters-on-da-chesa-boudin-recall-in-june\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">endorsements<\/a>\u00a0of the San Francisco Democrat Party, the editorial board of\u00a0The San Francisco Chronicle,\u00a0most of the city\u2019s current and former leaders and lawmakers, many major unions, and celebrities. But these endorsements fell short of persuading voters.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Frank Ma, a former law enforcement official,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/californiaglobe.com\/articles\/prominent-endorsements-fail-to-sway-sf-voters-on-da-chesa-boudin-recall-in-june\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pronounced<\/a>\u00a0that the establishment failed to realize that voters are tired of seeing \u201ccrimes happen in front of them and either nothing happening or the person who did the crime be back out within days.\u201d Therefore, they ignored the establishment\u2019s endorsement and soundbites and voted based on what they saw and experienced.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There is a similar disconnect between average Democrat voters and the Party establishment on the national level. While the Biden administration, Congressional Democrats, and their media allies continue to push policies on climate change, racial justice, and gender issues, most voters (including many registered Democrats) in key congressional battleground states consider inflation and crime to be the most critical issues. They\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/washington-secrets\/biden-dems-cratering-out-of-touch-condescending\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">believe the Democrat establishment \u201cis out of touch with everyday people and are condescending toward voters<\/a>.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>If the Democrat establishment refuses to listen to voters and reverse its harmful policies, the recall of Boudin is only the beginning of election defeats the party is likely to face this year.<\/p>\n<h2>3. Neither Party Can Afford to Ignore Asian American Voters<\/h2>\n<p>Since Asian Americans traditionally have been solid supporters of the Democrat candidates, the Democrat Party has taken their votes for granted, and the Republican Party hasn\u2019t bothered to win them over.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But in recent years, Asian Americans have been at the forefront of opposing some of the Democrats\u2019 extreme policies. In Washington State, Asian Americans helped defeat a 2019 ballot initiative that sought to allow \u201ccharacteristics such as race, sex, color, ethnicity, national origin, age\u201d as factors when considering candidates for educational or employment opportunities. In California, Asian Americans helped\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/California_Proposition_16,_Repeal_Proposition_209_Affirmative_Action_Amendment_(2020)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">defeat a similar ballot initiative<\/a>\u00a0in 2020.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This year San Francisco\u2019s Asian voters were the driving force behind the two successful campaigns that first recalled three leftist school board members and now the city\u2019s woke DA. The Democrat Party shouldn\u2019t take Asian American voters for granted. If Asian Americans continue to feel harmed by the left\u2019s extreme policies, the Democrat Party will see an exodus of Asian voters this November.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Asian Americans\u2019 successful political campaigns have demonstrated that issues than party loyalty drive them.
