As an example, Julia Rose and Juila Rose are the same person, but she has duplicate registrations with unique voter identification numbers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other notable findings include the identification of 2,398 records of New Jersians that are 105 years old and older. One such example documented in the report is Patrick DePaola of Bayonne, who, \u201caccording to the voter roll,\u201d was born on July 28, 1905, and registered to vote on June 2, 1927. Despite <a href=\"https:\/\/obits.nj.com\/us\/obituaries\/jerseyjournal\/name\/patrick-depaola-obituary?id=23967384\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dying<\/a> on Dec. 9, 2010, at age 105, DePaola \u201cwas still showing as an ACTIVE registered voter in Hudson County\u201d in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The PILF brief goes on to raise additional concerning figures in the Garden State\u2019s voter rolls, including \u201can excess of 33,000 registrants without dates of birth indicating eligibility\u201d and over 6,800 records that \u201cdo not include an actual date of registration,\u201d among others. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cNew Jersey has some explaining to do in how it collects and maintains basic voter information,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/publicinterestlegal.org\/press\/report-tens-of-thousands-of-new-jersey-voter-registrations-are-duplicated-missing-critical-information\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> PILF President J. Christian Adams in response to the organization\u2019s findings<em>. <\/em>\u201cAs we have already demonstrated, PILF will pursue available remedies to correct often long neglected government records.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last month, the legal group <a href=\"https:\/\/publicinterestlegal.org\/press\/lawsuit-new-jersey-hides-voter-list-cleanup-rules-amid-thousands-of-duplicate-registrations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">filed a federal lawsuit<\/a> against New Jersey Secretary of State Tahesha Way\u00a0for <a href=\"https:\/\/publicinterestlegal.org\/press\/lawsuit-new-jersey-hides-voter-list-cleanup-rules-amid-thousands-of-duplicate-registrations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">allegedly<\/a> \u201cviolating the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) for refusing to disclose documentation explaining how election officials resolve duplicate voter registrations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the group\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/publicinterestlegal.org\/press\/lawsuit-new-jersey-hides-voter-list-cleanup-rules-amid-thousands-of-duplicate-registrations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">press release<\/a>, PILF had previously\u00a0\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/publicinterestlegal.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/4.11.22-NJSOS-Data-Overview.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">alerted the Secretary of State\u2019s office<\/a>\u00a0to what appears to be thousands of examples where registrants are stored in duplicate\u201d and \u201c[t]ens of thousands of other voter records were highlighted for missing or fictitious biographical information like dates of birth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPILF sought official data maintenance guides with the goal of discerning precisely why the widespread errors were appearing in the voter roll.
