He noted \u201ca widespread sense\u201d that local authorities in the two cities were failing when it came to providing \u201cpublic safety and order.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you are in a position where you have impact on public safety, public safety is part of the job,\u201d Brownstein said on \u201cCNN Newsroom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rick Caruso, a former Republican, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/11\/los-angeles-mayor-rick-caruso-karen-bass-crime\/\">made<\/a> addressing high crime and homelessness part of his mayoral campaign in Los Angeles. Tesla CEO Elon Musk <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/03\/elon-musk-rick-caruso-los-angeles\/\">endorsed<\/a> Caruso\u2019s candidacy Friday, saying the city was \u201cfortunate\u201d to have him as a mayoral candidate.<\/p>\n<p>Boudin <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/06\/san-fran-prosecutor-defund-police-advocate-recall\/\">faces<\/a> a recall vote Tuesday over rising crime rates in San Francisco.
