Because of \u2018do nothing\u2019 politicians here and in Washington, every state is now a border state\u2014especially Indiana, the Crossroads of America. I refuse to allow Hoosiers\u2019 liberties and security to be eroded by illegal aliens and those who want to stick their heads in the sand pretending we aren\u2019t affected,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Rokita\u2019s press release cited research from the Migrant Policy Institute that claimed Indiana hosts more than 100,000 illegal aliens, costing Indiana taxpayers at least $549 million annually.<\/p>\n<p>WANE-TV <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wane.com\/news\/local-news\/rokita-sues-president-biden-over-immigration-policies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> that the lawsuit states that Mexico is now the top importer of fentanyl in the United States. According to WANTE-TV, Rokita argues that \u201clax border security has directly led to fentanyl fatalities in Indiana doubling in the last two years. Plus, the suit claims, sex offenders are entering the country at the southern border have increased 200 percent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The attorney general, who has visited the border multiple times since President Biden took office, argued that the nation\u2019s current policies are causing significant harm to his state, even though it is hundreds of miles from the southern border.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter extensive research and my visits to the border, it\u2019s clear that the lawlessness at the border has a significant, negative impact to Hoosiers,\u201d Rokita said. \u201cBiden\u2019s open border policy welcomes drug trafficking and human trafficking at a cost of millions annually to Hoosier taxpayers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit calls for changing the current policies, including reimplementing the Trump-era \u201cRemain in Mexico\u201d policy that returned certain asylum seekers to Mexico while awaiting an immigration ruling.<\/p>\n<p>Rokita\u2019s legal action also <a href=\"https:\/\/content.govdelivery.com\/attachments\/INAG\/2022\/06\/06\/file_attachments\/2177239\/Immigration%20-%20ECF%201%20-%20Complaint.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">calls<\/a> on the Biden administration to award Indiana \u201ccosts and reasonable attorney\u2019s fees,\u201d along with other relief as the \u201cCourt deems equitable and just.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Biden, the lawsuit named the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and the United States as defendants in the suit.<\/p>\n<p>During an interview on Tuesday, Rokita also argued for Indiana to assist border states in protecting the nation\u2019s border if the federal government refuses to do so.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur position is, at least in the attorney general\u2019s office of Indiana, is that if the federal government is not going to take care of it, we need to help Texas, Arizona, and border states do the job because it\u2019s also impacting us inside our state lines,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsmax.com\/newsmax-tv\/todd-rokita-indiana-immigration-lawsuit\/2022\/06\/07\/id\/1073284\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are criminals who are crossing the border trafficking drugs, trafficking young children, trafficking others coming to do harm to our country,\u201d he said. \u201cThey\u2019re not here to be assimilated into our American values.
