Basically, I took the best Republican positions on the generic congressional ballot at this point in midterm cycles since 1938, that generic ballot basically is, \u2018Would you vote for the generic Republican or generic Democrat in your district?&#8217;\u201d Enten explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd guess what? Since 1938, the Republican two-point lead on the generic congressional ballot is the best position for Republicans at this point in any midterm cycle in over 80 years,\u201d he continued. \u201cIt beats 2010, when Republicans were up a point.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes history isn\u2019t always prologue, but my estimate for the 2023 House makeup if the election were held today \u2014 which again, it isn\u2019t \u2026 would be Republicans, 236 seats to 241 seats. Democrats, 194 to 199,\u201d Enten said, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/bidens-approval-craters-on-key-issues-potentially-dragging-down-dems-in-midterms-poll\/\">predicting a swing<\/a> from Democrats +12 to Republicans +37-47.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is a stomping or that would be a stomping,\u201d Tapper replied, and Enten agreed, \u201cYes, it would.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of the Democrats\u2019 problems, it seems, can be linked back to the president, right, who is severely underwater,\u201d Tapper pivoted to address President Joe Biden\u2019s low approval ratings and how that could impact the midterm elections.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;A lot of the Democrats\u2019 problems, it seems, can be linked back to the president, right, who is severely underwater,&#8221; Jake Tapper says \u2014 and Harry Enten concurs. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Cnzds4ER6v\">pic.twitter.com\/Cnzds4ER6v<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Virginia Kruta (@VAKruta) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/VAKruta\/status\/1533990423554826254?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 7, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Enten noted that the \u201cmidterm penalty\u201d \u2014 that is, how many seats the party in the White House stood to lose in any given midterm election \u2014 often hinged on the sitting president\u2019s approval rating.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 1962, the president\u2019s approval rating, JFK, was 71%. Bill Clinton in 1998, 63%. In the 2002 cycle, 72% for George W. Bush. Joe Biden\u2019s is just 41%,\u201d Enten said, going on to ask, \u201d Why is his approval rating so low?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Enten then brought up a slide showing approval rating in the context of the economy specifically \u2014 which a majority of American voters have said will be the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/congressional-republicans-have-double-digit-leads-in-voters-trust-on-inflation-economy-national-security-survey\/\">most important issue<\/a> heading into November.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the net approval rating on the economy at this point in a presidency. Joe Biden\u2019s minus 26 points.
