Patients in the group lived for a median of 23.9 months versus 17.5 months for chemotherapy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__large__nEccO body__base__22dCE body__large_body__FV5_X article-body__element__2p5pI\" data-testid=\"paragraph-4\">\u201cIn the small group of patients with hormone-insensitive tumours, patients on Enhertu lived 6.3 months longer,\u201d Reuters added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__large__nEccO body__base__22dCE body__large_body__FV5_X article-body__element__2p5pI\" data-testid=\"paragraph-10\">Enhertu \u201chas been linked to a type of lung scarring called interstitial lung disease (ILD),\u201d the report warned. \u201cForty-five Enhertu patients in the trial had varying degrees of ILD versus one in the chemotherapy group.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__large__nEccO body__base__22dCE body__large_body__FV5_X article-body__element__2p5pI\" data-testid=\"paragraph-14\">The drug is currently being \u201cevaluated for use in earlier stages of breast cancer, as well as lung and colorectal cancers, among others. It has secured approval in HER2-driven gastric cancer,\u201d Reuters said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__large__nEccO body__base__22dCE body__large_body__FV5_X article-body__element__2p5pI\" data-testid=\"paragraph-15\">\u201cAs far as breast cancer goes, I\u2019d say at least in the next few years, I\u2019m pretty sure in Enhertu is going to kind of finish revolutionising the treatment paradigm,\u201d said Informa Pharma Custom Intelligence\u2019s Tara Hansen.<\/p>\n<p>On the same day the\u00a0Enhertu data sets were revealed, a paper outlining results from a small cancer trial that left every patient in remission was published at The New England Journal of Medicine, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/unprecedented-remarkable-cancer-study-leaves-every-patient-cancer-free\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>The paper outlined a study of 18 rectal cancer patients who were given dostarlimab every three weeks for six months and ended up cancer-free, including the first patient who is now two years out from the trial.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cI believe this is the first time this has happened in the history of cancer,\u201d said Dr. Luis A. Diaz Jr. said, an author of the paper,\u00a0The New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/06\/05\/health\/rectal-cancer-checkpoint-inhibitor.html\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Andrea Cercek, an oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and another author of the paper, described \u201ca lot of happy tears\u201d at the end of the trial.<\/p>\n<p>While noting the study needs replication,\u00a0Dr. Kimmie Ng, a colorectal cancer expert at Harvard Medical School, called the trial results \u201cremarkable\u201d and \u201cunprecedented.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe initiated a prospective phase 2 study in which single-agent dostarlimab, an anti\u2013PD-1 monoclonal antibody, was administered every 3 weeks for 6 months in patients with mismatch repair\u2013deficient stage II or III rectal adenocarcinoma,\u201d the study <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nejm.org\/doi\/full\/10.1056\/NEJMoa2201445\">said<\/a>. \u201cThis treatment was to be followed by standard chemoradiotherapy and surgery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Those who took the drug, which \u201cunmasks cancer cells, allowing the immune system to identify and destroy them,\u201d according to the Times, did <em>not<\/em> have to move on to further cancer treatments.<\/p>\n<p>All the patients \u201chad a clinical complete response, with no evidence of tumor on magnetic resonance imaging,\u201d the paper explained. \u201cAt the time of this report, no patients had received chemoradiotherapy or undergone surgery, and no cases of progression or recurrence had been reported during follow-up (range, 6 to 25 months).
