Relentless inflation \u2014 along with multiple reports indicating that Johnson had attended a number of illegal gatherings while his country was locked down \u2014 prompted discontent from many citizens and members of Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>Tensions were so high earlier in the week that when <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/british-prime-minister-boris-johnson-to-remove-all-remaining-coronavirus-restrictions-in-england\/\">Johnson<\/a> arrived at a service during Queen Elizabeth II\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/platinum-jubilee-judge-defends-choice-to-remove-j-k-rowling-from-reading-list\/\">platinum jubilee<\/a> \u2014 celebrating her 70 years on the throne \u2014 that he was greeted with a mixture of boos and cheers from the crowd.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">A mixture of boos and cheers as Boris Johnson arrives \u2014 even at a church service for the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/platinumjubilee?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#platinumjubilee<\/a> . (If you needed a reminder of how divisive a figure the PM is \u2026) <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/xQABGcz2Cs\">pic.twitter.com\/xQABGcz2Cs<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Chris Ship (@chrisshipitv) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/chrisshipitv\/status\/1532661046913245184?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 3, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sir Graham Brady, Chairman of the 1922 Committee, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/boris-johnson-london-government-and-politics-d1bc8ce279ee43a8854c53c698bc0e57\">announced<\/a> that a no-confidence vote would be held late on Monday, after at least 54 MPs sent in letters calling for it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can report as returning officer that 359 ballots were cast, no spoilt ballots, that the vote in favour of having confidence in Boris Johnson as leader was 211 votes and a vote against was 148 votes,\u201d Brady said after the votes were tallied. \u201cAnd therefore, I can announce that the parliamentary party does have confidence in Boris Johnson.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Johnson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gbnews.uk\/news\/boris-johnson-says-we-can-move-on-after-convincing-and-decisive-result-in-confidence-vote\/311944\">spoke to media<\/a> after the vote, saying that it was time for everyone to unite and move forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think this is a very good result for politics and for the country \u2026\u00a0a convincing result, a decisive result, and what it means is that as a Government we can move on and focus on the stuff that I think really matters to people,\u201d he said, adding, \u201cI have got a far bigger mandate from my own parliamentary colleagues than I had in 2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI see no point in focusing on anything else and I\u2019m certainly not interested in snap elections. What I\u2019m interested in is delivering right now for the people of this country,\u201d Johnson concluded.<\/p>\n<p>Some pointed out that <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/slava-ukraini-boris-johnson-makes-unannounced-visit-to-kyiv\/\">Johnson<\/a>, who won his no-confidence vote 59%-41%, won with a slimmer margin than several prime ministers who had faced similar situations.<\/p>\n<p>Former Prime Minister Theresa May faced a no-confidence vote in December of 2018, and she won 63%-37% \u2013 she resigned 5 months later. Margaret Thatcher faced one in 1989, but won hers handily \u2014 84%-16%. Even then, opposition built over the subsequent year lead to her being ousted in a similar vote in 1990.
