Trump had an affair with her and that his attorney, Michael Cohen, paid her $130,000 in hush money to keep her quiet just prior to his 2016 presidential campaign.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Many thought the lawsuits would wind up bringing down the president, but like much of the Trump era, Avenatti\u2019s prominence backfired brilliantly on the Left almost as quickly as he rose to fame.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In March 2018, Avenatti and Daniels <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2019\/03\/25\/timeline-michael-avenatti\">first sued<\/a> Trump in an attempt to nullify a non-disclosure agreement that Daniels claimed she was pressured into signing to keep the alleged affair silent. After that, Avenatti was \u2014 in the words of ABC\u2019s The View\u2019s Ana Navarro \u2014 \u201clike the Holy Spirit\u201d because he was everywhere at once, she explained.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Remember when Ana Navarro fawned over Michael Avenatti so much that she offered him a spot on The View? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/M4jVmCwwiz\">pic.twitter.com\/M4jVmCwwiz<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Townhall.com (@townhallcom) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/townhallcom\/status\/1413235911358300163?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 8, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<p>He was constantly seen on cable television blasting Trump on a range of subjects.<\/p>\n<p>The Media Research Center <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/nb\/bill-dagostino\/2019\/04\/11\/update-tv-news-hosted-michael-avenatti-254-times-one-year\">found<\/a> that he appeared on television between March 7, 2018 and April 2019, 254 times, including 122 appearances on CNN and 108 interviews on MSNBC.<\/p>\n<p>His presence was so well-felt that resident expert Brian Stelter even thought he would make a great presidential candidate in 2020.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In September, Stelter told Avenatti, \u201cI don\u2019t know if it\u2019s a good thing that star power and TV savvy is required for the job. But I think it is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd by the way, I think President Obama also had a lot of TV star power and that helped him, pre-Trump,\u201d he continued. \u201cBut Trump is more evidence of this, and looking ahead to 2020, one reason why I\u2019m taking you seriously as a contender is because of your presence on cable news.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">CNN&#8217;s Brian Stelter last year on Michael Avenatti running for president: &#8220;And looking ahead to 2020, one reason I\u2019m taking you seriously as a contender is because of your presence on cable news.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/2Wn2bX17kx\">pic.twitter.com\/2Wn2bX17kx<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ryan Saavedra (@RealSaavedra) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RealSaavedra\/status\/1131280416738951168?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 22, 2019<\/a><\/p>\n<p>And that\u2019s just around the time when Avenatti started becoming undone.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly before that appearance, Avenatti appeared on Carlson. The most popular host in cable TV did not even reference his name directly once. Carlson simply <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/transcript\/tucker-carlson-interviews-creepy-porn-lawyer-michael-avenatti\">called<\/a> him \u201cCreepy Porn Lawyer\u201d or \u201cStormy Daniels\u2019 lawyer\u201d the entire interview.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At one point, Carlson accused Avenatti of taking advantage of her and financially profiting off her name, without giving her any financial resources.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019ve profited from Stormy Daniels,\u201d Carlson said. \u201cYou\u2019ve done tens of millions dollars\u2019 worth of free media on the basis of your relationship with her and she\u2019s working in strip clubs. You\u2019re exploiting her, and you know that. Why aren\u2019t you paying her some of what you\u2019re making?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSir, this is absurd,\u201d Creepy Porn Lawyer responded. \u201cI have not exploited.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But, indeed it appears he was exploiting her.<\/p>\n<p>That same year, Avenatti had filed a defamation suit against Trump against Daniels wishes, she claimed. That suit was thrown out by a federal judge, and Daniels was ultimately on the hook to pay some of Trump\u2019s legal bills. She maintains she never wanted to file the suit in the first place.<\/p>\n<p>In the fall of 2018, Avenatti took his exploitation a step further. Daniels was the author of a new autobiography, \u201cFull Disclosure.\u201d Avenatti, still representing her at the time, \u201chelped negotiate an $800,000 book advance for Daniels,\u201d The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/disgraced-lawyer-michael-avenatti-sentenced-to-four-years-in-prison\">reported<\/a>. Then, he instructed the porn star\u2019s literary agent to wire the first two installments of the advance to an account Avenatti controlled, without Daniels\u2019 knowledge. Avenatti pocketed the payments, which totaled just under $300,000. That is also known as fraud.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Avenatti was convicted of that crime in February 2022. He reportedly cried during his hearing.
