Instead of extinguishing the fire that\u2019s burning its already nonexistent credibility, the Bezos-owned media outlet is doubling down on its lie-ridden articles and supporting problematic staff like disgraced doxxer Taylor Lorenz, even as it goes down in flames.<\/p>\n<p>The Washington Post\u2019s rough week started with a jury decision ordering Amber Heard, who described herself in a WaPo article <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/05\/09\/how-the-washington-post-and-aclu-helped-amber-heard-attack-johnny-depp\/\">manufactured by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)<\/a> as \u201ca public figure representing domestic abuse,\u201d to pay her ex-husband some $15 million in damages for ruining his life. <\/p>\n<p>Nearly four years after WaPo ran the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/ive-seen-how-institutions-protect-men-accused-of-abuse-heres-what-we-can-do\/2018\/12\/18\/71fd876a-02ed-11e9-b5df-5d3874f1ac36_story.html\">defamatory article<\/a> in which Heard insinuated accusations against Depp of \u201csexual violence\u201d that the publication didn\u2019t bother to verify or ask Depp for comment about, there was no apology or a well-deserved retraction from WaPo for publishing lies. Instead, the paper that brags about being a light in a world where \u201cdemocracy dies in darkness\u201d half-heartedly added an editor\u2019s note to the story simply stating what the jury found Heard liable for.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after the Depp-Heard trial implicated WaPo for publishing garbage masquerading as a win for \u201cBelieve All Women,\u201d several Washington Post writers led by the publication\u2019s unhinged national political reporter Felicia Sonmez, who <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/01\/28\/kobe-bryants-life-is-a-reminder-of-the-reality-of-redemption\/\">essentially called for Kobe Bryant to be canceled<\/a> shortly after his death, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/feliciasonmez\/status\/1532763318804439047?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1533153410333163520%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es2_&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.mediaite.com%2Fonline%2Fwapo-editor-admonishes-staff-to-treat-each-other-with-respect-as-kindness-as-numerous-messy-feuds-play-out-on-twitter%2F\">publicly dogpiled<\/a> their colleague David Weigel for simply retweeting a joke about <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/beardyblue\/status\/1532772303595094017?s=21&#038;t=zx0WGy9_yRl95DYCAAqnwg\">women being either bisexual or bipolar.<\/a> <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1003\" for sharing the post but that didn\u2019t stop Sonmez from bombarding him and other WaPo reporters on Twitter and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/online\/wapo-editor-admonishes-staff-to-treat-each-other-with-respect-as-kindness-as-numerous-messy-feuds-play-out-on-twitter\/\">on a work Slack channel<\/a>. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"344\" leaders<\/a>, who should have been focused on crafting an incredibly ashamed retraction for publishing Heard\u2019s ACLU propaganda, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BenMullin\/status\/1533479995426865153?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1533479995426865153%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.mediaite.com%2Fonline%2Fwapo-editor-admonishes-staff-to-treat-each-other-with-respect-as-kindness-as-numerous-messy-feuds-play-out-on-twitter%2F\">to href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BenMullin\/status\/1533479995426865153?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 5, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Sonmez\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/feliciasonmez\/status\/1533495286726856707\">incessant blubbering<\/a> on social media continued over the weekend, even after WaPo dropped everything to denounce \u201charassment, discrimination or bias of any sort\u201d including what appears to be a retweet of an online quip. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"WG40ORfRA1q5xy5g0ueKhv1ziyVP8KLspLN4XmpkJcru9DkGIDQMPN23j2hQU8t9wTl7swrTnBioYcm\"><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Example 5 billion and then some. Especially great when a statement from your newspaper\u2019s executive editor provides fodder for *more* harassment. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/nwNLPOcSDm\">pic.twitter.com\/nwNLPOcSDm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Felicia Sonmez (@feliciasonmez) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/feliciasonmez\/status\/1533495286726856707?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 5, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>At the same time Sonmez was trashing her employer, The Washington Post\u2019s disgraced doxxer Taylor Lorenz came under fire for lying about her attempts to contact two YouTubers known for covering the Depp-Heard trial for comment. Both YouTubers, \u201cLegalBytes\u201d host Alyte Mazeika and \u201cThatUmbrellaGuy,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/youtuber-wapo-correction-taylor-lorenz-story-contact-instagram-publication-false\">criticized<\/a> Lorenz for refusing to do her job correctly but the editors at WaPo didn\u2019t bat an eye at her sleazy tactics until later.<\/p>\n<p>Not only was the piece stealth-edited to hide Lorenz\u2019s journalistic failure, but the first attempt at fixing the piece wasn\u2019t even a sufficient correction. As a result, Lorenz\u2019s fireable offenses were couched with another, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2022\/06\/02\/johnny-depp-trial-creators-influencers\/\">lengthier editor\u2019s note<\/a> appearing to endorse Lorenz\u2019s strategy of seeking comment after the article was published.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first published version of this story stated incorrectly that Internet influencers Alyte Mazeika and ThatUmbrellaGuy had been contacted for comment before publication. In fact, only Mazeika was asked, via Instagram. After the story was published, The Post continued to seek comment from Mazeika via social media and queried ThatUmbrellaGuy for the first time,\u201d the editor\u2019s note stated.<\/p>\n<p>It was only towards the end of the note that WaPo admitted that secretly removing Lorenz\u2019s claim that she properly reached out for comment was \u201ca violation of our corrections policy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Once again, WaPo failed to fully acknowledge how disastrous it was to publish such a story without following proper and nearly universal comment standards. Instead of chastising, demoting, or even firing their star internet columnist for her history of unethical coverage \u2014 including doxxing the anonymous owner of LibsofTikTok, lying about being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/taylor-lorenz-drudge-report-editor-claim\">harassed by a Drudge Report editor<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/new-york-times-taylor-lorenz-says-she-regrets-error-claiming-entrepreneur-used-r-slur-doesnt-apologize\">falsely accusing people of using slurs<\/a> \u2014 WaPo keeps problematic reporters like Lorenz on board and on the front page. <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a pattern that WaPo has gladly adhered to with their subpar editors and reporters who have published erroneous and shameful coverage and \u201cfact\u201d \u201cchecks\u201d that are just a front for political propaganda. <\/p>\n<p>Over and over, The Washington Post has lied about the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/03\/03\/trump-campaign-files-libel-lawsuit-against-washington-post-for-false-reporting-on-russian-collusion\/\">Russia collusion hoax<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2017\/01\/10\/washington-post-reporter-doubles-down-on-fake-news-about-guns\/\">guns<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/08\/31\/washington-post-lies-about-the-democratic-partys-support-for-infanticide\/\">Democrats\u2019 abortion goals<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/marklarflash\/status\/1533489347785285634?s=21&#038;t=_HJ5mKW_RgsIvzpxRQ-p1A\">rising gas prices<\/a>, and so much more. Without a moment of hesitation, WaPo has wrongfully smeared <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/04\/20\/dont-let-washington-post-get-away-with-memory-holing-its-anti-kavanaugh-campaign\/\">future Supreme Court justices with fake rape allegations<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/06\/22\/washington-post-clarifies-error-riddled-hit-piece-on-top-anti-crt-investigative-journalist\/\">critical race theory opponents<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2019\/10\/29\/judge-to-reconsider-covington-catholic-teens-defamation-lawsuit-against-washington-post\/\">schoolkids wearing MAGA hats<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/11\/17\/washington-post-predictably-covers-for-leftists-who-attacked-trump-supporters-waving-flags-in-dc\/\">peaceful Trump supporters<\/a>, and even <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2018\/01\/03\/washington-post-tweet-debunked-hit-piece-jesus\/\">Jesus<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When they get caught in their deceptions, WaPo simply <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/washington-post-corrects-removes-reporting-steele-dossier\">stealth edits glaring misinformation<\/a> out of its thorny articles and occasionally slaps an unapologetic statement at the top with hopes that everyone forgets their grave mistakes by tomorrow. <\/p>\n<p>The Washington Post\u2019s credibility was already long gone, but if this week has shown its readers anything, it\u2019s that you can\u2019t trust the corrupt corporate press to protect democracy.
