Nearly twice as many \u2014 46% \u2014 do not believe their living standards can improve.<\/p>\n<p>Jennifer Benz, vice president of public affairs and media research at NORC, told The Wall Street Journal that inflation, in particular, is driving the dismal results. Indeed, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) has risen by 8.3% since last year \u2014 near the highest inflation rate in four decades.<\/p>\n<p>The new poll is far from the only indication that rising price levels make consumers nervous.<\/p>\n<p>When asked by a Harvard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/poll-95-of-voters-say-inflation-is-somewhat-or-very-serious\">survey<\/a> about inflation, 95% of respondents said that inflation is \u201cvery serious\u201d or \u201csomewhat serious.\u201d A plurality \u2014 47% \u2014 said that the Biden administration is responsible.<\/p>\n<p>Another <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/94-percent-of-americans-concerned-about-inflation-overwhelmingly-trust-republicans-to-handle-it-poll\">poll<\/a> conducted by The Washington Post and ABC News revealed that 94% of Americans were either \u201cupset\u201d or \u201cconcerned\u201d about the impact of skyrocketing inflation. Biden\u2019s approval rating was underwater, with 42% approving of his work and 52% disapproving.<\/p>\n<p>Many high-profile Americans \u2014 from Tesla CEO <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/elon-musk-has-a-super-bad-feeling-about-the-economy-wants-a-massive-layoff-at-tesla\">Elon Musk<\/a> to rapper <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/even-cardi-misses-trumponomics-cardi-b-wants-to-know-when-they-will-announce-the-recession\">Cardi B<\/a> \u2014 are likewise worried about a looming economic contraction. While the former told executives at the automaker that he has a \u201csuper bad feeling\u201d about the economy, the latter asked her followers when they think \u201cthey going to announce that we going into a recession.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The United States economy contracted at a 1.5% annualized rate during the first quarter of 2022, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bea.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2022-05\/gdp1q22_2nd.pdf\">Bureau of Economic Analysis<\/a>, which associates recessions with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bea.gov\/help\/glossary?title_1=All&#038;title=&#038;page=6#:~:text=The%20NBER%20recession%20is%20a,well%20as%20quarterly%20GDP%20growth.\">two consecutive quarters<\/a> of negative growth.<\/p>\n<p>In interviews with residents of West Philadelphia \u2014 a Democrat-run, majority-minority neighborhood where median household income is 43% of the national average \u2014 The Daily Wire found that soaring inflation and gas prices are making life more difficult for those with precarious financial standing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s too high. I don\u2019t know what happened, because the price of everything is too high now,\u201d Mohamed, a West Philadelphia resident and immigrant from French-speaking Africa, explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI drive to work and I go home. And anything else in between, I try to do it as I\u2019m going home from work,\u201d added Art, a maintenance worker who lives in Delaware but commutes to West Philadelphia. \u201cIt\u2019s just too expensive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe way prices with everything have gone up, I\u2019ve had to start cutting back on what I spend money on,\u201d Kahil, a high school student, remarked. \u201cThere\u2019s only one simple answer. Prices need to go where they used to be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was using maybe $30 per week.
