In fact, the president has asked us on his team to analyze that. And so we are in the process of doing that for him and he will have to make that decision,\u201d Raimondo told CNN in an interview with Jake Tapper about the topic.<\/p>\n<p>She added that putting tariffs on products like \u201csteel and aluminum\u201d are useful to protect American suppliers, but tariffs on items like \u201chousehold goods\u201d and bicycles may be worth lifting.<\/p>\n<p>Former President Donald Trump imposed tariffs on billions of dollars worth of Chinese imports during his administration. He campaigned on increasing American production and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2016\/06\/full-transcript-trump-job-plan-speech-224891\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">called<\/a> China\u2019s entrance into the World Trade Organization the \u201cgreatest jobs theft in history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Treasury Secretary Janet\u00a0<span class=\"il\">Yellen<\/span> also has voiced support for lifting tariffs on China, calling them \u201cnot very strategic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of the tariffs that were imposed by President Trump in retaliation for China\u2019s unfair trade practices, some of them, to me, seem as though they imposed more harm on consumers and businesses,\u201d Yellen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/05\/18\/business\/janet-yellen-g7-comments\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a> in an interview in May.<\/p>\n<p>Yellen admitted Wednesday that she was wrong about her previous inflation predictions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think I was\u00a0<span class=\"il\">wrong<\/span>\u00a0then about the path that inflation would take,\u201d\u00a0<span class=\"il\">Yellen<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/videos\/business\/2022\/05\/31\/janet-yellen-admits-to-being-wrong-about-inflation-sot-tsr-vpx.cnn\/video\/playlists\/business-economy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/videos\/business\/2022\/05\/31\/janet-yellen-admits-to-being-wrong-about-inflation-sot-tsr-vpx.cnn\/video\/playlists\/business-economy\/&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1654608357351000&#038;usg=AOvVaw3EQLICdE5zeZ8iN_Ph49hl\">said<\/a>\u00a0in response to 2021 comments where she claimed inflation would be \u201ca small risk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tapper pressed Raimondo for making similar predictions in the past, downplaying inflation.<\/p>\n<p>Raimondo conceded that Americans are \u201cclearly \u2026 struggling with inflation\u201d after previously saying that inflation will be a \u201cshort-term problem\u201d six months ago.
