Three months ago, the same load would have been about $30,000.<\/p>\n<p>Schlafer said that if she didn\u2019t charge $9.60, she\u2019d be out of business.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m going to be lucky if I make the year with all the fees, the regulation, the payroll fees,\u201d she said.\u00a0\u201cIf it continues the way it is, Mendocino won\u2019t have a gas station next year.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n\t<\/aside>\n<p>Schlafer claims other stations are charging as much as she is, but AAA has the average for the area at $6.31, just a couple pennies higher than the statewide average.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithout much of a doubt it\u2019s the most expensive gas in the country,\u201d said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at Gas Buddy, told SFGate.<\/p>\n<p>Oil prices rose for the sixth straight week, with the benchmark West Texas Intermediate settling Friday at $118 a barrel, up 3.3%. Surging crude prices reflect short supply in the US, which started when demand plunged during Covid lockdowns. Demand came back, but production and supply have not.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRefinery capacity has diminished due to COVID,\u201d De Haan said. \u201cWe don\u2019t have as much ability to refine as much fuel as the market is consuming.
