He could demonstrate his own commitment by making sure existing laws are enforced \u2014 including against his son, Hunter Biden, for apparent violations.<\/p>\n<p>As Breitbart News has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/05\/30\/joe-biden-lectures-americans-on-gun-control-after-hunter-admitted-to-firearm-malpractice\/\">reported<\/a>, Hunter Biden appears to have lied on paperwork he filled out when purchasing a handgun in 2018 by failing to disclose his problems with drugs. His sister-in-law, with whom he had an affair, allegedly took his gun, wrapped it in a shopping bag and threw it away. According to Hunter Biden\u2019s own text messages, the Secret Service, the FBI, and state investigators apparently became involved \u2014 but he was never prosecuted and the matter seems to have disappeared.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>As the National Rifle Association <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nraila.org\/articles\/20210405\/hunter-biden-incident-shows-that-gun-laws-are-for-the-little-people\">explained<\/a> in 2021, Hunter Biden \u2014 appears to have violated several federal firearms laws:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote>\n<p>It is illegal for a person \u201cwho is an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance\u201d to possess a firearm. Possession of a firearm by a prohibited person is punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment.<\/p>\n<p>In order to purchase a firearm from an FFL [a gun dealer with a federal firearms license from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives], a buyer must fill out a Form 4473. The form asks, \u201cAre you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?\u201d Hunter answered \u201cno\u201d to this question.<\/p>\n<p>Lying on a form 4473 is two separate crimes. It is a crime when a person \u201cknowingly makes any false statement or representation with respect to the information required by this chapter to be kept in the records of a person licensed under this chapter,\u201d such as the Form 4473. A violation of this provision is punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment. It is also a crime for a person to \u201cmake any false or fictitious oral or written statement\u201d to a dealer \u201cwith respect to any fact material to the lawfulness of the sale.\u201d A violation of this provision is punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Moreover, the alleged transport of Hunter\u2019s gun might also have violated a federal law \u2014 backed by then-Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) \u2014 against the transport of guns within school zones, particularly if such guns are not carried within a locked container.<\/p>\n<p>The alleged violations, which would have taken place in October 2018, are still within the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/uscode\/text\/18\/3282\">five-year statute of limitations<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, President Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2022\/06\/02\/remarks-by-president-biden-on-gun-violence-in-america\/\">said<\/a>: \u201cIf you own a weapon, you have a responsibility to secure it \u2014 every responsible gun owner agrees \u2014 to make sure no one else can have access to it, to lock it up, to have trigger locks.\u201d He also called for expanded background checks.<\/p>\n<p>Before any new laws are passed, we should enforce existing ones, starting with Hunter Biden.<\/p>\n<p><em>Joel B.
