Heard<\/em> case.<\/p>\n<p>While legal experts say using homeowner\u2019s insurance policies is common in defamation cases,\u00a0Virginia lawyer Jeremiah Denton told The Post that most policies have a clause that stipulates judgment costs will not be covered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe insurance company will keep in its back pocket the option of denying coverage at the end of the day,\u201d\u00a0Denton said. \u201cDenying coverage means refusing to pay the plaintiff \u2014 in this case, Mr. Depp.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of insurance policies provide coverage for defamation but they have an exclusion in, which says \u2018We will not cover any intentional wrongdoing,&#8217;\u201d Denton added.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned=\"\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CUfzLy5o9b4\/?utm_source=ig_embed&#038;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\">\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On Wednesday, the jury found for Depp on all three of his defamation claims, awarding the <em>Pirates of the Caribbean<\/em> star $10 million in compensatory damages, and $5 million in punitive damages. The punitive damages, however, were reduced to $350,000 to comply with Virginia law that caps punitive damages at that amount.<\/p>\n<p>The jury also found for Heard on one of her two claims, awarding her $2 million in compensatory damages, but no punitive damages. Therefore, the actress is speculated to owe Depp $8.35 million in damages.<\/p>\n<p>Following Wednesday\u2019s verdict, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.celebritynetworth.com\/richest-celebrities\/actors\/amber-heard-net-worth\/\">celebritynetworth.com<\/a> changed Heard\u2019s estimated net worth to negative $8 million, but on Friday, the site adjusted that amount to negative $6 million, explaining that \u201cPrior to the verdict, we estimated that Amber\u2019s net worth at $2.5 million.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Experts told The Post that Depp could\u00a0still potentially claim the money he was awarded by garnishing Heard\u2019s wages from her two upcoming movies, levy her assets, and even seize her house in California, which has been valued at $1 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Depp] can institute collection proceedings so he can garnish [Heard\u2019s] pay, if she has a salary or wage-type income,\u201d Denton said. \u201cHe can attach her assets which basically means seize them.
