And Mrs. Fetterman, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/health\/medical\/john-fetterman-got-a-defibrillator-after-his-stroke-but-doctors-say-the-campaign-e2-80-99s-story-e2-80-98doesn-e2-80-99t-make-sense-e2-80-99\/ar-AAXLS9C?ocid=uxbndlbing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told reporters<\/a> that the only heart condition she knew of was atrial fibrillation, was either lying or misinformed.<\/p>\n<p>Heart specialists who were contacted by the media about Fetterman\u2019s condition repeatedly said they couldn\u2019t understand why he\u2019d been fitted with a pacemaker with a defibrillator if his only issue is A-fib. A-fib can cause strokes, which is what sent Fetterman to the hospital, but defibrillators are designed to shock the heart\u2019s ventricles into rhythm, not the atria. It was inexplicable for Fetterman to receive that treatment \u2014 unless there was a separate heart condition that hadn\u2019t been disclosed to the public.<\/p>\n<p>Under pressure from <a href=\"https:\/\/hotair.com\/allahpundit\/2022\/06\/02\/very-nervous-pennsylvania-dems-wonder-when-fetterman-will-return-to-the-campaign-trail-n473590\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cvery nervous\u201d Democratic leaders<\/a> in his home state and an increasingly curious media, Fetterman revealed that condition today: Cardiomyopathy, or heart disease that affects the muscle\u2019s ability to pump blood efficiently.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s one reason to read the letter issued by his physician. The other is that, uh, it\u2019s the most passive-aggressive medical assessment I\u2019ve ever seen. The doctor might as well have signed it \u201cTOLD YA SO.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">John Fetterman, who has been criticized for not providing more details about his health following his stroke, releases a letter from his doc saying he was first diagnosed in 2017 with an irregular heart rhythm. Say this for him: It *is* extremely American for a guy to ignore major health problems and then ignore the doctor\u2019s advice after he\u2019s finally forced to go.<\/p>\n<p>Although \u2026 five years without a doctor\u2019s visit? After being told that his heart wasn\u2019t pumping correctly?<\/p>\n<p>Maybe he\u2019s a little too American.<\/p>\n<p>Read the paragraph about his cardiomyopathy again, though. Am I wrong or was it written carefully to create some plausible deniability about why the Fettermans covered up his underlying condition? It implies that Fetterman wasn\u2019t told, or didn\u2019t understand, until yesterday that he has a more serious problem than A-fib. The guy has a graduate degree from Harvard.<\/p>\n<p>Another detail of his treatment that struck medical experts as odd was Gisele Fetterman\u2019s description of an incision made in her husband\u2019s groin. She and the campaign claimed initially that he had suffered a minor stroke but experts told the media that an incision in the groin would typically be made for a thrombectomy \u2014 a more serious procedure in which a clot is removed from a major artery in the brain. Today Fetterman released his own statement admitting that his stroke wasn\u2019t all that minor. Quote: \u201cI almost died.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Powerful words on the sometimes harmful way men tend to approach their own health from <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JohnFetterman?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@JohnFetterman<\/a> as he released details around his heart condition, and what led to his stroke. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/2mQuExChy1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pic.twitter.com\/2mQuExChy1<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Dasha Burns (@DashaBurns) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DashaBurns\/status\/1532818158368735234?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">June 3, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Apart from him covering up the true nature of his health problem, his negligence in attending to it, and the gravity of his stroke, he\u2019s been completely forthcoming.<\/p>\n<p>The GOP is tired of giving him a pass on account of his illness, and why shouldn\u2019t they be? His campaign keeps claiming he\u2019s fine. His doctor\u2019s note confirms that he\u2019ll be fine *if* he does what he\u2019s told this time. Ring the bell and let the fight begin, then. (Although false in one respect: Fetterman supports fracking.) He\u2019s every inch a Bernie-style progressive but the GOP will labor to convince Pennsylvanians of that because of how much Fetterman resembles a stereotypical MAGA voter, so there\u2019s no time to waste in educating voters. The more radical Fetterman\u2019s public image becomes, the more a squishy centrist Republican like Mehmet Oz will seem like a better fit for the state. <\/p>\n<p>The candidate himself turned up on camera this morning in a short ad of his own, which operates as much as a proof-of-life video at this point as a request for donations. He seems spry, although a bit stilted in his line readings despite the fact that the clip is so short:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">So Republicans just spent $2.3 MILLION in ads against me + our campaign. On the other hand, it\u2019s his bad luck that his likely opponent is a medical doctor (a cardiothoracic surgeon, no less) whose opinion that MFA would be a bad idea might carry more weight with swing voters than the typical Republican\u2019s would. This may end up being the most interesting Senate race in the country \u2014 assuming it ever gets going, that is. \u201cI need a little more time.
