The shooting hit particularly close to home for him because his mother worked as a kindergarten teacher in Uvalde during his childhood.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce again, we have tragically proven that we are failing to be responsible for the rights our freedoms grant us,\u201d McConaughey said in a statement after the shooting. \u201cThe true call to action now is for every American to take a longer and deeper look in the mirror, and ask ourselves, \u2018What is it that we truly value?
