Forty-eight percent said they would vote for the generic Republican candidate, while only 40 percent said the\u00a0generic Democrat candidate if the election was held \u201ctoday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The poll found that only four percent would choose a different candidate, while another eight percent said they were unsure.<\/p>\n<p>The Republicans gained two points from last week when the survey showed the GOP with a 47 percent to 41 percent lead, what\u00a0Rasmussen Reports\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/05\/27\/poll-republicans-continue-to-lead-generic-congressional-ballot-lose-some-momentum-from-gun-rights-battle\/\">said<\/a> was the closest the two parties had been all year.\u00a0Rasmussen Reports updates their\u00a0generic congressional ballot every Friday.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Last week\u2019s\u00a0slight dip for\u00a0Republicans occurred the same week a shooting occurred at an\u00a0Elementary School in Texas, where\u00a0Border Patrol agents moved in to stop the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/border\/2022\/05\/25\/border-patrol-agents-ended-mass-shooting-at-texas-elementary-school\/\">shooter<\/a>. Since then,\u00a0leftist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/sports\/2022\/05\/26\/marco-rubio-blasts-nba-politicizing-texas-shooting-while-staying-quiet-china\/\">organizations<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/clips\/2022\/05\/26\/beto-orourke-there-will-be-a-reckoning-on-november-8-our-childrens-lives-depend-on-it\/\">lawmakers<\/a> have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/clips\/2022\/05\/27\/dem-rep-cicilline-republicans-will-pay-a-political-cost-if-they-dont-pass-gun-laws\/\">tried<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/clips\/2022\/05\/27\/hayes-gun-control-opponents-get-that-smaller-restrictions-are-the-first-opening-salvo-to-try-to-get-more\/\">force<\/a> the issue of gun control on the American people.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mv-ad-box\">Rasmussen noted that in June 2018, <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rasmussenreports.com\/public_content\/archive\/mood_of_america_archive\/generic_congressional_ballot\/2018\/june_2018\/democrats_hold_lead_on_generic_ballot_for_second_week_in_a_row\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">before<\/a> the Democrats took the House for the first time in eight years, they only had a four-point advantage on the\u00a0generic congressional ballot. Additionally, June 2028 was slightly up from May 2018, when the\u00a0Democrats\u00a0only had a one-point advantage on the\u00a0generic congressional ballot.<\/div>\n<p>Plus, as the 2018 November midterm election neared, the margins between the Democrats and Republicans came <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rasmussenreports.com\/public_content\/archive\/mood_of_america_archive\/generic_congressional_ballot\/generic_congressional_ballot_nov05\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">extremely close<\/a>\u00a0\u2014\u00a0Republicans had 46 percent to 45 percent for\u00a0Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>However, in this poll, the Republican party has a heavy advantage (15 points) with independents over the Democrats. With the voters not affiliated with either major party, 43 percent\u00a0said they would vote for the GOP candidate, while\u00a0only 28 percent said they would vote for the Democrat candidate.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, 27 percent of\u00a0black voters and 43 percent of\u00a0other minority groups said they would vote for the\u00a0Republican candidate if the election was held \u201ctoday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Rasmussen Reports <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rasmussenreports.com\/public_content\/politics\/mood_of_america\/generic_congressional_ballot_jun03\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">survey<\/a> was conducted from May 29 to June 2 and questioned 2,500\u00a0likely U.S. voters.
