Prices for diesel also eclipsed their prior record set in May, averaging $5.58 per gallon Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[When] it comes to the gas prices, we\u2019re going through an incredible transition that is taking place,\u201d President Joe Biden said in Japan last week. \u201cWhen it\u2019s over, we\u2019ll be stronger and the world will be stronger and less reliant on fossil fuels.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Beyond sticker shock when filling up, Americans are paying for higher fuel costs by way of higher prices for goods and groceries that are now more expensive to produce and ship. According to the latest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/news.release\/pdf\/cpi.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">data<\/a> from the Department of Labor, overall prices are up 8.3 percent from last year, the fastest pace in 40 years. Energy is up more than 30 percent. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/gas-prices-could-reach-6-a-gallon-by-summer-jpmorgan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Analysts <\/a>at JPMorgan Chase predict Americans could face an average $6.20 per gallon by August. Residents in California already surpassed the average $6.20 per gallon to fill up this week.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the added stress on American consumers, who hold the lowest confidence in the nation\u2019s economy since 2009, as Gallup <a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/393176\/economic-pessimism-growing.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">revealed<\/a> Tuesday, President Biden has only escalated his administration\u2019s war on domestic energy production with new restrictions. Last month, CBS News reported the Interior Department <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/05\/12\/as-gas-prices-set-new-records-biden-nukes-more-oil-and-gas-projects\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">canceled<\/a> oil and gas projects from Alaska to the Gulf of Mexico. Biden\u2019s resumption of oil and gas leases on federal land <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/04\/21\/why-bidens-court-ordered-resumption-of-oil-and-gas-leases-wont-bring-down-prices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced<\/a> in April to comply with a court order also comes with a new cascade of taxes and regulations, including a 50 percent spike in royalty fees from what\u2019s extracted. <\/p>\n<p>In a feeble attempt to keep gas prices down ahead of the fall midterms, the president harnessed the nation\u2019s emergency oil reserves with an \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/04\/01\/joe-biden-is-doing-everything-possible-to-avoid-unleashing-american-energy-production\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">unprecedented<\/a>\u201d release of 1 million barrels of oil per day for 180 days. The rollout of the release, which <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sullycnbc\/status\/1522272237180571651?s=21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">began<\/a> May 15, coincided with daily records in gas prices for more than a week. Past releases under this administration have also made <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/04\/01\/joe-biden-is-doing-everything-possible-to-avoid-unleashing-american-energy-production\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">no difference<\/a> in controlling gas prices now up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/dnav\/pet\/hist\/LeafHandler.ashx?n=pet&#038;s=emm_epm0_pte_nus_dpg&#038;f=m\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">nearly 100 percent<\/a> from the final month that President Donald Trump was in office.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/tools\/faqs\/faq.php?id=33&#038;t=6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">According<\/a>\u00a0to the Department of Energy, Americans use about 20 million barrels of oil per day.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Tristan Justice is the western correspondent for The Federalist.
