that could have landed them in jail for a decade.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\"><\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/legal\/government\/ny-lawyers-plead-guilty-molotov-cocktail-case-shorter-sentences-likely-2022-06-02\/\">According<\/a> to Reuters, now former lawyers <a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/activist-new-york-lawyers-convicted-of-firebombing-nypd-van-during-summer-of-2020-may-only-get-two-years-each\">Urooj Rahman and Colinford Mattis<\/a> plead guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit arson and possession of an explosive device.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>Prosecutors <a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/activist-new-york-lawyers-convicted-of-firebombing-nypd-van-during-summer-of-2020-may-only-get-two-years-each\">recommended<\/a> eighteen to twenty-four-month sentences for both, citing the &#8220;nature and circumstances of the offense and the histories and personal characteristics of these defendants.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>The pair also agreed to pay $30,137 each in &#8220;restitution&#8221; to the city.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>Rahman is scheduled to be sentenced on September 29, and Mattis on October 5.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>In May 2020, <a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/violent-protests-flare-across-the-us-after-george-floyds-death\">George Floyd<\/a> was killed after former officer Derek Chauvin kneeled on his neck for nearly ten minutes. The murder sparked a wave of <a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/violent-protests-flare-across-the-us-after-george-floyds-death\">mass protests<\/a> across the country.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>Rahman and Mattis took part in <a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/activist-new-york-lawyers-convicted-of-firebombing-nypd-van-during-summer-of-2020-may-only-get-two-years-each\">protests<\/a> in Brooklyn in early June, during which they committed their crimes. It was revealed via security footage that Rahman threw a gasoline-filled bottle into an empty police cruiser and attempted to distribute Molotov cocktails to others in the crowd. She then fled the scene in a minivan driven by Mattis.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>The pair later said they deeply regretted their actions.
