Notable exemptions in this list include glaucoma, anxiety, chronic pain and opioid addiction, which are commonly covered in other states\u2019 bills, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsobserver.com\/news\/politics-government\/state-politics\/article262024292.html#:~:text=There%20are%20other,Those%20include%3A\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The New &#038; Observer.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Republican North Carolina State Sen. Bill Rabon, the bill\u2019s main sponsor, expressed urgency in legalizing medical marijuana due to the colon cancer that almost took his life 20 years ago. He said he believes marijuana can make a significant difference in the quality of life with chronic diseases. Rabon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theassemblync.com\/short-form\/medical-marijuanas-conservative-champion\/\">told<\/a> The Assembly, \u201cevery session we wait, every day we wait, someone\u2019s gonna suffer that could benefit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Delmer Langley, the owner of D.E.L. Hemp Farm \u2014 Wilson County\u2019s only commercial hemp grower \u2014 told the Daily Caller that if Bill 711 becomes law, the plan is to expand into medical marijuana, but noted it may be difficult due to licensing. \u201cI would love to do it, but they\u2019re only going to hand out 10 licenses in North Carolina, and then 10 licenses can have four brokers under it,\u201d Langley said. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2019\/01\/28\/doctor-loses-license-prescribing-marijuana-four-year-old\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: California Doctor Loses License After Prescribing Cannabis To A Four-Year-Old)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under the current version of the bill, only 10 medical marijuana supplier licenses would be issued, according to cannabis business outlet <a href=\"https:\/\/mjbizdaily.com\/north-carolina-senate-passes-medical-marijuana-legalization-bill\/#:~:text=Under%20Senate%20Bill%20711%2C%20a,county%20designated%20as%20economically%20disadvantaged.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MJBizDaily<\/a>. Under each of these licenses, each holder is permitted to open up to four dispensaries.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic State Sen. Julie Mayfield has expressed her concern about the vertical structure of these licenses which favor large corporations, the outlet noted.<\/p>\n<p>Langley said he was confident the Compassionate Care Act would pass the state legislature. \u201cI don\u2019t know why it won\u2019t pass the House,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve talked to some representatives, and they said everybody signed off on it pretty quick.\u201d Langley declined to elaborate on whether he believes that Democratic North Carolina Gov. According to a 2016 candidate guide from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/roy-cooper-vs-pat-mccrory-nonpartisan-candidate-guide_b_5809545ae4b0f8715789f82d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Huffington Post<\/a>, Cooper wants to move slowly and study the impact in states that have legalized it.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Caller contacted Gov.
