Joni Ernst is demanding Anthony Fauci\u2019s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) provide information on its experiments on puppies.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>In May, the watchdog group White Coat Waste Project obtained a nearly $2 million NIAID contract for testing on puppies and other animals that involves force feeding them experimental allergy drugs.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>\u201cThe last time taxpayers and lawmakers of both parties found out about Dr. Fauci\u2019s horrific experiments on dogs, they were rightfully outraged. Before we hand him another nearly $2 million, we need answers to basic questions about this exorbitant contract,\u201d Ernst told The Daily Caller News Foundation.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Republican Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst is requesting information from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) after it awarded a nearly two million contract on the taxpayers\u2019 dime to perform \u201cinvasive, painful, and potentially deadly\u201d experiments on puppies as young as six months old.<\/p>\n<p>Ernst sent a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ernst.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/letter_to_national_institute_of_allergy_and_infectious_diseases.pdf\">letter<\/a> Thursday to Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), requesting information on the experiments. The project involves force feeding puppies, mice, rats and dogs with experimental allergy drugs, according to the $1,836,453 contract <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/nih-to-spend-2-million-in-taxpayer-funds-experimenting-on-puppies\/\">obtained<\/a> by the watchdog group White Coat Waste Project in May.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis taxpayer-funded dog testing commissioned by NIAID appears to be unnecessary,\u201d said Ernst in her letter. \u201cAccording to the FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) documents, NIAID\u2019s contractor proposed an alternative, non-dog animal model to replace dogs for at least some testing. Additionally, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has stated that, \u2018The FDA does not mandate that human drugs be studied in dogs.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ernst asked the NIAID to provide the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usaspending.gov\/award\/CONT_AWD_75N93021C00044_7529_-NONE-_-NONE-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">experiment\u2019s<\/a> test name and description, number of dogs to be used, cost to taxpayers and the pain level as designated by the<span class=\"RES9jf q8U8x\" role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"> Department of Agriculture. The senator is also probing whether any funding will be provided from \u201cprivate sources,\u201d if funding will be provided to labs in China, the cost to taxpayers if a non-animal testing model was used and if the NIAID consulted Food and Drug Administration on whether dog testing was the only alternative.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201c[W]e applaud Sen. Ernst for holding Dr. Fauci and his NIAID white coats accountable for #BeagleGate and demanding answers about his troubling plans to waste even more taxpayer dollars to abuse puppies in five cruel and unnecessary tests to evaluate a new drug to treat a runny nose,\u201d Justin Goodman, senior vice president of White Coat Waste Project, said in a statement to The Daily Caller News Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>As of March, it appears testing has not yet begun, Goodman told The DCNF. (Photo by Alex Wong\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The NIH did not immediately respond to TheDCNF\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Ernst\u2019s probe comes as both Republican and Democratic lawmakers have <a href=\"https:\/\/lieu.house.gov\/media-center\/press-releases\/reps-lieu-and-mace-lead-bipartisan-letter-opposing-animal-testing-funded\">sought<\/a> to ban the <span class=\"RES9jf q8U8x\" role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\">NIAID from animal testing. Dogs were infected with heartworm larvae last year and then killed, The Daily Caller <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/04\/fauci-experiment-beagles-niaid-animal-research-white-coat-waste\/\">first<\/a> reported, and also <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.whitecoatwaste.org\/2022\/01\/30\/coke-hounds-wcw-exposes-2m-nih-cocaine-tests-on-puppies-to-fulfill-deadly-fda-red-tape\/\">injected<\/a> with cocaine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe last time taxpayers and lawmakers of both parties found out about Dr. Fauci\u2019s horrific experiments on dogs, they were rightfully outraged,\u201d Ernst told TheDCNF. \u201cCutting dogs\u2019 vocal cords out, infesting the dogs with ticks, and placing dogs in cages with infectious sandflies were just some of those disgusting, federally-funded experiments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBefore we hand him another nearly $2 million, we need answers to basic questions about this exorbitant contract,\u201d the senator added.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"RES9jf q8U8x\" role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\">The documents obtained by White Coat Waste Project were partially redacted and the Iowa Republican wants the NIAID to openly disclose all facets of the experiment and acknowledge how much it will cost taxpayers in total.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
