Something got lost in the translation, however.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018Nestor the Molester,\u2019 Nestor Cortes,\u201d Kaat said as he noted the out-of-town score. \u201cAngles and different speeds. He\u2019s a pitcher.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Well, that&#8217;s certainly a new and unique nickname for a big league hurler. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/9ng9EFRLeY\">https:\/\/t.co\/9ng9EFRLeY<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 OutKick (@Outkick) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Outkick\/status\/1532702736952840192?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 3, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was clear that Kaat meant Cortes was making batters uncomfortable with a dazzling menu of pitches en route to authoring seven innings of five-hit, shutout ball in the Bronx. But suffice to say nobody wants to be referred to as a \u201cmolester.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously, we take these matters seriously and, like in all cases, will handle this internally and privately,\u201d said Twins Vice President of Communications and Content Dustin Morse, who spoke with Kaat after the broadcast. \u201cJim meant no ill will.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kaat said he intended to apologize privately to Cortes, who heard about the remark and took it with good nature.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sure, you know, he didn\u2019t really mean it, and people make mistakes, but it didn\u2019t offend me at all,\u201d Cortes told the Associated Press.\u201dSo, you know, I don\u2019t really have anything more than just that, honestly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yankee fans have given Cortes a more acceptable nickname this season: \u201cNasty Nestor.\u201d The win on Thursday rasied his record to 5-1 with a sterling 1.50 ERA.<\/p>\n<p>Kaat, who previously was an announcer for the Yankees,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/story\/_\/id\/32363521\/jim-kaat-apologizes-40-acre-remark-alds-broadcast\">apologized in October<\/a>\u00a0after recommending that teams \u201cget a 40-acre field full of\u201d players who look like\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/chw\/chicago-white-sox\">White Sox<\/a>\u00a0infielder\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/33984\/yoan-moncada\">Yoan Moncada<\/a> while doing a game between the White Sox and Houston Astros for the MLB Network.<\/p>\n<p>Some viewers took it as a reference to the U.S. government\u2019s post-Civil War pledge to 40 acres and a mule to freed slaves. He apologized later in that game between the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/hou\/houston-astros\">Houston Astros<\/a>\u00a0and White Sox.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEarlier in the game when\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/33984\/yoan-moncada\">Yoan Moncada<\/a>\u00a0was at the plate, in an attempt to compliment the great player that he is, I used a poor choice of words that resulted in an insensitive and hurtful remark,\u201d Kaat said. \u201cAnd I\u2019m sorry for that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During his own career, Kaat pitched for five teams over 25 years and won 283 games before retiring in 1983.
