His speech, which largely centered around a call to action, came one day after a shooter <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/01\/tulsa-mass-shooting-hospital-st-francis-hospital-oklahoma\/\">killed<\/a> four people at a hospital in Oklahoma. It also came shortly a mass <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/28\/people-being-incredible-uvalde-texas-massacre\/\">shooter<\/a> killed 19 children and two teachers in Uvalde, Texas, and just <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/14\/buffalo-supermarket-mass-shooting-tops\/\">weeks<\/a> after a mass shooter killed 10 people at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey had one message for all of us: Do something, just do something, for God\u2019s sake, do something,\u201d Biden first said, referring to his visits to Buffalo and Texas, where he met with victim\u2019s family members.<\/p>\n<p>The president, before diving into his <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/25\/second-amendment-biden-gun-control\/\">gun control<\/a> push, tried to assure Americans that \u201cthis is not about taking away anyone\u2019s guns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is \u2026 not about vilifying gun owners,\u201d Biden said. \u201cIn fact, we believe we should be treating responsible gun owners as an example of how every gun owner should behave.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI respect the culture and tradition, and the concerns of lawful gun owners. At the same time, the Second Amendment, like all other rights, is not absolute,\u201d Biden added.<\/p>\n<p>Biden continued on to make his requests clear, at a time when Congress is attempting to move legislation forward on gun control. The House Judiciary Committee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/gun-control-bills-house-judiciary-committee-protecting-our-kids-act\/\">met<\/a> Thursday to advance a package along party lines, and a group of bipartisan senators have been discussing ways to come to an agreement on gun control.<\/p>\n<p>The president began his push for gun control by <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/31\/assault-weapons-ban-biden-1994-crime-bill\/\">reiterating<\/a> his call to ban \u201cassault weapons and high capacity magazines.\u201d If so-called assault weapons can\u2019t be banned, the president said the age to purchase them should be raised from 18 to 21.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe should limit how many rounds a weapon can hold,\u201d Biden said. \u201cWhy, in God\u2019s name, should an ordinary citizen be able to purchase an assault weapon that holds thirty-round magazines that let mass shooters fire hundreds of bullets in [a] matter of minutes?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/24\/joe-biden-massacre-texas-school-shooting-gun-lobby\/\">Biden<\/a> also called for expanding background checks. This, he argued, would help \u201ckeep guns out of the hands of felons, fugitives and those under restraining orders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He pushed for \u201csafe storage laws,\u201d which require gun owners to make efforts \u2013 like locking up guns or keeping ammunition separate \u2013 to keep their guns out of the hands of children and anyone who may take the gun and use it in a crime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you own a weapon, you have a responsibility to secure it. Every responsible gun owner agrees, to make sure that no one else can have access to it \u2026 And if you don\u2019t, and something bad happens, you should be held responsible,\u201d Biden said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The president continued on to express support for \u201cnational red flag laws,\u201d saying that it would allow for a parent, teacher or counselor to \u201cflag for a court\u201d if an individual is \u201cexhibiting violent tendencies.\u201d Biden said \u201c19 states and the District of Columbia have red flag laws.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe should repeal the liability shield that often protects gun manufacturers from being sued for the death and destruction caused by their weapons,\u201d the president also argued. \u201cThey\u2019re the only industry in this country that has that kind of immunity.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/11\/gun-control-house-of-representatives-universal-background-checks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: House Passes Gun Control Bill Enforcing Universal Background Checks)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Finally, Biden honed in on America\u2019s \u201cmental health crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a serious youth mental health crisis in this country, and we have to do something about it,\u201d the president said. \u201cThat\u2019s why mental health is at the heart of my unity agenda that I laid out at the State of the Union address this year. We must provide more school counselors, more school nurses, more mental health services for students and for teachers. More people volunteering as mentors to help young people succeed. More privacy protection and resources to keep kids safe from the harms of social media.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden ended his speech by raising a pointed question to Congress, asking: \u201cWhat will the Congress do?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<span id=\"subtitle384\" class=\"subtitle selfragment\" data-id=\"384\" data-start=\"2375610\" data-end=\"2377500\">My fellow Americans, enough,\u201d Biden declared. \u201c<\/span><span id=\"subtitle385\" class=\"subtitle\" data-id=\"385\" data-start=\"2379300\" data-end=\"2380441\">Enough. It\u2019s time for each of us<\/span> <span id=\"subtitle386\" class=\"subtitle\" data-id=\"386\" data-start=\"2380441\" data-end=\"2383200\">to do our part. It\u2019s time to act. For the children we\u2019ve lost. For the children we can save.
