The actor discussed feeling very uncomfortable with the situation during a recent Esquire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esquire.com\/entertainment\/tv\/a40011366\/elliot-page-umbrella-academy-euphoria\/\">interview<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen Juno was at the height of its popularity, during awards-season time, I was closeted, dressed in heels and the whole look \u2013 I wasn\u2019t OK, and I didn\u2019t know how to talk about that with anyone,\u201d Page told the publication.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wish people would understand that that s*** literally did almost kill me. In my early to mid-20s, I didn\u2019t know how to tell people how unwell I was. I would berate myself for it. I was living the life and my dreams were coming true, and all that was happening. I struggled with food, intense depression, anxiety, and severe panic attacks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cUmbrella Academy\u201d alum was not happy wearing a dress to the Los Angeles premiere while wanting to wear a suit instead.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Page related how numerous people have apologized after the dress incident, especially after Page came out as transgender. The \u201cJuno\u201d alum described being forced to wear a dress as \u201cextremely f***ed up\u201d and \u201cgross.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Page also discussed suicidal ideation during the interview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCan I relate to the suicide problem among trans people? Yeah, I can relate deeply. And not only to the very conscious, direct act of doing it but also certain times when I lost so much weight or when I was having such severe panic attacks and collapsed multiple times \u2013 all these things that very easily could, and statistically do, lead to death,\u201d Page said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were moments of wanting to not be here\u2026 I would look out the window of my apartment and think, \u201cWith everything going on right now and how incredible it all is, this is how I feel? And I\u2019m 22?\u201d It was like, I don\u2019t know if I could do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Page described feelings of intense anxiety and fear of leaving the house. Now, the Hollywood star says, everything is different.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know I look different to others, but to me I\u2019m just starting to look like myself. It\u2019s indescribable,\u201d Page said of transitioning.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe greatest joy is just being able to feel present, literally, just to be present. To go out in a group of new people and be able to engage in a way where I didn\u2019t feel this constant sensation to flee from my body, this never-ending sensation of anxiety and nervousness and wanting out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought it was impossible how I\u2019m able to feel now \u2026 I could not picture myself as a woman aging,\u201d Page continued. \u201cObviously. It was just like, what is my future? There\u2019s not a future. That\u2019s kind of what it felt like. I would say, verbatim: I\u2019ve never been a girl.
