Justice Samuel Alito gave the order Tuesday, pausing a lower court ruling over a disputed 2021 local court election. That case would have allowed for the counting of mail-in ballots without a handwritten date on them.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unclear when the Supreme Court will review the case further or how long it would take, but Pennsylvania\u2019s Senate primary race will likely be affected. The new ruling will no longer allow election officials to count dateless ballots. This means Republican Senate candidate David McCormick likely won\u2019t catch up to his competitor Mehmet Oz as the recount must be finished by June 8.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"und\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/IrfOy2T6jj\">pic.twitter.com\/IrfOy2T6jj<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Dave McCormick (@DaveMcCormickPA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DaveMcCormickPA\/status\/1529251032026558465?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 25, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As McCormick scrounges for ballots to make up the gap with Oz, Alito\u2019s order could freeze McCormick\u2019s lawsuit in Pennsylvania state courts. A senior campaign official briefed reporters about the plans and offered several complaints.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cI can\u2019t tell you today with full confidence, I can\u2019t tell my client how many votes we have,\u201d stated the official. \u201cWe\u2019re doing a recount of a count that I actually don\u2019t know the results of. We have essentially two different sources of data. One being the counties, two being the Department of State with completely different results.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The eventual winner will face Lt. Gov.
