Police are still trying to determine the motive behind the shooting, but Tulsa Police Captain Richard Meulenberg <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/06\/02\/us\/tulsa-hospital-shooting-thursday\/index.html\">told<\/a> CNN that it was a purposeful attack.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe very purposefully went to this location, went to a very specific floor, and shot with very specific purpose,\u201d Meulenberg told the outlet. \u201cThis was not a random shooting by this individual.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meulenberg made <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2022\/06\/01\/us\/tulsa-shooting-oklahoma-news\">similar comments<\/a>\u00a0per The New York Times, saying the gunman\u2019s \u201cactions were deliberate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Police later said that one of those killed in the shooting had treated the suspect as a surgery patient in the past.<\/p>\n<p>Officers responded to the medical center within minutes of receiving a call about a man with a gun in the building, Tulsa Police Deputy Chief Eric Dalgleish said at a press conference. When they arrived, they \u201cwere hearing shots in the building, and that\u2019s what directed them to the second floor,\u201d he added, according to CNN.<\/p>\n<p>Police currently believe the gunman shot himself after killing four other people and wounding fewer than 10 others.<\/p>\n<p>Witnesses <a href=\"https:\/\/ktul.com\/\">described<\/a> the scene to CNN affiliate KTUL. Lachelle Nathan told the outlet she was with her daughter-in-law and grandchildren heading to a doctor\u2019s appointment when she saw police running toward the medical complex.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s awful, it\u2019s sad. My daughter-in-law is from Buffalo, so now it\u2019s so close to home. It\u2019s not even safe if you come outside anymore, you know?\u201d she told the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, you see it on TV,\u201d her daughter-in-law told the outlet, \u201cbut you don\u2019t think it\u2019s actually going to happen right in front of your eyes, so this is a wakeup call for my kids, this can really happen anywhere and it\u2019s very scary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t even go to a store, you can\u2019t even go to school, now you can\u2019t go to the doctor?\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>In the wake of the tragedy,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/kevin-stitt\">Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt<\/a>\u00a0(R) released a statement calling the attack \u201ca senseless act of violence and hatred.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSarah and I are praying for the families of those who lost their lives and for those who were injured,\u201d the governor added. \u201cI am grateful for the quick and brave actions of the Tulsa Police Department and other first responders who did their best to contain a terrible situation.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While it is still unclear why a man shot and killed four people and injured several others at a Tulsa, Oklahoma, medical center on Wednesday, police have said the attack was not random.
