Heard was awarded $2 million over statements Depp lawyer Adam Waldman wrote about Heard allegedly intentionally messing up her apartment to stage a hoax against Depp.\u00a0Due to Virginia law, the judge reduced Depp\u2019s award to $10.35 million.<\/p>\n<p>Heard spokeswoman Alafair Hall \u201csaid the actress plans to appeal the decision,\u201d a New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2022\/06\/01\/arts\/johnny-depp-amber-heard-verdict\">report<\/a> said.<\/p>\n<p>In a lengthy statement posted on social media, Heard slammed the verdict as a setback for women.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe disappointment I feel today is beyond words,\u201d she wrote in a statement posted on her Twitter. \u201cI\u2019m heartbroken that the mounting of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women,\u201d the actress continued. \u201cIt is a setback. It sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke up and spoke out could be publicly shamed and humiliated.
