Its online map will be launched this spring, the<\/span> <em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Harvard Crimson<\/span><\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecrimson.com\/article\/2021\/2\/19\/gender-inclusive-mapping-project\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">reported<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Friday.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Gender Inclusive Mapping project is &#8220;grounded by [the university\u2019s] collective responsibility to promote inclusivity,&#8221; team co-chair and Title IX coordinator Caysie C. Harvey told the<\/span> <em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Crimson.<\/span><\/em> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Harvey said the map will be updated as more sex-indiscriminate restrooms are added across campus.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Harvard University and Harvard\u2019s Office of BGLTQ Student Life did not respond to the<\/span> <em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Washington Free Beacon<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2019s request for information regarding the percentage of transgender, &#8220;non-binary,&#8221; and &#8220;gender nonconforming&#8221; students on campus. But a<\/span> <em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Crimson<\/span><\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/features.thecrimson.com\/2017\/freshman-survey\/makeup-yale\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">survey<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">of Harvard freshmen found that just 0.4 percent of the school\u2019s 1,700 first-year students\u2014roughly 6.8 people\u2014identify as transgender.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students at Harvard can already opt into &#8220;Gender Inclusive&#8221; housing regardless of their sex or sexual orientation, according to the BGLTQ Student Life<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/bgltq.fas.harvard.edu\/gender-inclusive-housing\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. The accommodations are offered to &#8220;anyone<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">who wants to live with people with whom they feel comfortable, regardless of their gender.&#8221; Sex inclusivity &#8220;acknowledges and reaffirms gender diversity as an important aspect&#8221; of student life on campus, the website says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Universities in recent years have begun opening traditionally single-sex spaces like dormitories and restrooms to all students regardless of their sex or sexual orientation. The University of California, Berkeley in 2017<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/culture\/berkeley-spend-2-7-m-student-money-gender-inclusive-locker-room\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">announced<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">it would spend $2.7 million in student fees to build a gender-inclusive locker room.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">President Joe Biden has signaled that his administration is likely to reinstate Obama-era directives that<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/05\/14\/us\/transgender-bathrooms.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">mandated<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">K-12 and higher education institutions provide students sex-indiscriminate restroom access.
