The jury also\u00a0awarded Heard $2 million in damages for defamatory remarks made by Depp\u2019s lawyers.\u00a0In her statement, Heard claimed that \u201cthe disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband\u201d prompted a verdict that hurts all women.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women. It is a setback,\u201d she wrote. \u201cIt sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke up and spoke out could be publicly shamed and humiliated. It sets back the idea that violence against women is to be taken seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe Johnny\u2019s attorneys succeeded in getting the jury to overlook the key issue of Freedom of Speech and ignore evidence that was so conclusive that we won in the UK,\u201d she concluded. \u201cI\u2019m sad I lost this case.
