Hale, 26, was charged with several counts, including unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon, and resisting arrest, the local prosecutor\u2019s office said. Still images taken from video showed her brandishing a gun and defying police instructions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVideo surveillance from body cameras showed Hale being told to drop the firearm and pointing it at the officers before the officers fired three shots,\u201d Fox 4 <a href=\"https:\/\/fox4kc.com\/news\/woman-shot-by-kc-officers-charged-for-showing-pointing-weapon-at-police\/\">reported<\/a>. \u201cOne officer told investigators she feared that Hale was going to shoot her and she discharged her firearm one time. A second officer also told investigators that he believed Hale had a firearm pointed at him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Kansas City police shot at a person who brandished a pistol. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/zbX7ycQHwv\">https:\/\/t.co\/zbX7ycQHwv<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/pKQ5dZ11EY\">pic.twitter.com\/pKQ5dZ11EY<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Andy Ng\u00f4 \ud83c\udff3\ufe0f\u200d\ud83c\udf08 (@MrAndyNgo) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MrAndyNgo\/status\/1532170681693134849?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 2, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said in a statement on Wednesday that their \u201creview of the investigation revealed the defendant, although she denied having a weapon at the time of the encounter with law enforcement officers, continually displayed a weapon during her encounter with police officers and also appeared to be attempting to flee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe two officers stated that she was armed with what they believed to be a handgun,\u201d Baker added. \u201cBody camera footage confirms the officers\u2019 statements that Hale was holding a handgun. Still photos, taken from body cam footage, of this encounter also demonstrate a weapon was present and in the hands of the defendant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Baker blasted the \u201cfalse narratives\u201d that exploded on social media stemming from the false claims that the suspect was unarmed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome false narratives about what happened last Friday night at 6th and Prospect Avenue, unfortunately, were relied upon by some media and other sources,\u201d he said. \u201cOur job, as prosecutors, is to remain neutral and review all evidence. The female suspect (Leonna M Hale, 1\/6\/96, KS) exited the vehicle &#038; fled into the parking lot. Two officers fired shots. A suspect handgun was recovered from the scene. Hale was seriously injured &#038; her condition is stable.
