This team is filled with exceptionally talented people who have poured their hearts and minds into building products that have had a profound impact on the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sandberg \u2014 who joined Meta, previously called Facebook, in 2008 when founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg was 23 years old \u2014 will be focusing on her personal philanthropy efforts and marrying television producer Tom Bernthal this summer, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/06\/01\/technology\/sheryl-sandberg-facebook.html\">The New York Times<\/a> reported. Sandberg\u2019s organization, <a href=\"https:\/\/leanin.org\/about\">Lean In<\/a>, campaigns against sexual harassment in the workplace and the purported \u201cgender wage gap\u201d while advocating for paid family leave.<\/p>\n<p>Zuckerberg lauded Sandberg\u2019s work at the company in another post to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/zuck\">Facebook<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSheryl architected our ads business, hired great people, forged our management culture, and taught me how to run a company,\u201d he said. \u201cShe created opportunities for millions of people around the world, and she deserves the credit for so much of what Meta is today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sandberg \u2014 who will remain a member of Meta\u2019s board of directors after leaving her position in the fall \u2014 was hired at Facebook after working as Google\u2019s vice president of global online sales and operations, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/06\/01\/tech\/sheryl-sandberg-meta-coo-steps-down\/index.html\">CNN<\/a>. She has also worked at the World Bank and served in the Clinton administration\u2019s Treasury Department. In the past, Sandberg <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/flashback-facebook-and-its-top-officials-have-emily-zanotti\">financed Democratic candidates<\/a> and made a $1 million <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2019\/06\/28\/facebooks-sheryl-sandberg-makes-a-huge-political-donation-to-planned-parenthood\/\">donation<\/a> to Planned Parenthood\u2019s political arm in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen Sheryl joined me\u2026 I barely knew anything about running a company,\u201d Zuckerberg remarked. \u201cWe\u2019d built a great product \u2014 the Facebook website \u2014 but we didn\u2019t yet have a profitable business and we were struggling to transition from a small startup to a real organization.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last week, businessman Peter Thiel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/silicon-valleys-top-conservative-steps-down-from-metas-board-reportedly-to-help-republicans-win-in-november\">stepped down<\/a> from Meta\u2019s board to pursue other projects \u2014 namely, helping to elect Republican candidates in the midterm elections. In total, Thiel is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/silicon-valley-mega-investor-leaving-metas-board-for-gop-politics-report\">backing<\/a> four Senate candidates and 12 House candidates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe has served on our board for almost two decades, and we\u2019ve always known that at some point he would devote his time to other interests,\u201d Zuckerberg <a href=\"https:\/\/investor.fb.com\/investor-news\/press-release-details\/2022\/Peter-Thiel-to-Retire-from-Meta-Board-of-Directors-at-2022-Annual-Shareholder-Meeting\/default.aspx\">said<\/a> of Thiel\u2019s planned departure in February. \u201cI\u2019m grateful he\u2019s served on our board for as long as he has, and I wish him the best in his journey ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Meta \u2014 which also owns Instagram and Whatsapp \u2014 explained its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/facebook-changes-company-name-to-meta-will-focus-on-bringing-the-metaverse-to-life\">pivot away from the Facebook brand name<\/a> by announcing its intent to \u201cbuild the metaverse, a place where we\u2019ll play and connect in 3D. Welcome to the next chapter of social connection.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday we\u2019re seen as a social media company,\u201d Zuckerberg explained, \u201cbut in our DNA, we are a company that builds technology to connect people.
