I really want to be back down.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-390142\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo courtesy of the office of Ron DeSantis.<\/p>\n<p>As governor, DeSantis shared that he has a lot more on his plate than he did as a member of congress \u2014 but he still finds the job more \u201cfamily friendly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can go out and do stuff all day and be home for dinner,\u201d he explained. \u201cEven if I get home late, I see them in the morning. And so part of the reason why I ended up running for governor is because I had two young kids at home, and so if I\u2019m going to do public service I wanted to make sure I can do it in a way that is family friendly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI try to get back for dinner, try to get back to put them to bed, get them up in the morning, and of course doing as many activities with them as possible,\u201d the governor said, describing how he tries to involve his children in his role as governor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI brought my son to a multi-city stop one day. We did a bunch of press conferences. The last press conference, he fell asleep on the floor during the press conference, so I had to grab him and take him out,\u201d he shared with a smile.\u00a0\u201cWe do make an effort to involve them and let them be able to see what is really a great state to live in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis\u2019 comments come after he <a href=\"https:\/\/flgov.com\/2022\/04\/11\/governor-ron-desantis-signs-groundbreaking-legislation-to-support-involved-fatherhood-in-florida\/\">signed legislation in April<\/a> seeking to support fathers and their children by connecting boys with mentorship programs and men with career services.<\/p>\n<p>That legislation is \u201ctied to nearly $70 million in funding to provide a wide spectrum of family and youth support through the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) and the Department of Children and Families (DCF),\u201d the governor\u2019s office said in a press release.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Kids do better when they have active fathers in their lives. Governor <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RonDeSantisFL?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@RonDeSantisFL<\/a> is doing everything he can to support fatherhood in Florida. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Nxev7nuzDD\">pic.twitter.com\/Nxev7nuzDD<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Team DeSantis \ud83d\udc0a (@teamrondesantis) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/teamrondesantis\/status\/1513918542340624392?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 12, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are more than 18 million children in our country who live without a father in their home,\u201d DeSantis said at the time.\u00a0\u201cThis has a severe impact on children, and often leads to dropping out of school, crime, and substance abuse. Incredibly, there are those who diminish the importance of fatherhood and the nuclear family \u2013 we will not let that happen in our state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tony Dungy, the former head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, attended the bill signing and called the legislation \u201ctremendous,\u201d predicting that it would be \u201csuch a good help to fathers in Florida.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis bill is so important,\u201d he said at the time. \u201cI want to thank all of the men and women that have been behind this. It is going to allow groups like All Pro Dad and people like those here today to do great things for our fathers here in Florida.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">2 days ago I spoke on behalf of a Florida bill that supports dads &#038; families and it offended some people. 14 yrs ago Pres Obama said the same things almost verbatim. I\u2019m assuming people were outraged at him too.
