He is celebrated for being a \u201cregular Joe,\u201d and media figures are cheering that the news is \u201cboring again.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In reality, Biden\u2019s political career \u2014 which began almost 50 years ago \u2014 is replete with lies, hypocrisy, and political flip-flopping. Here is a breakdown of just a selection of the lies and flip-flops that make up Biden\u2019s career.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>1968:<\/strong> <span>Biden earned a Juris Doctor from Syracuse University College of Law, ranking 76th in his class of 85. He failed a course after plagiarizing a law review article.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>December 18, 1972:<\/strong> <span>Biden\u2019s wife Neilia and one-year-old daughter Naomi were tragically killed in an automobile accident in Hockessin, Delaware. Beau (aged 3) and Hunter (aged 2) survived with injuries. Despite the investigating official saying that the driver of the tractor-trailer which hit Neilia\u2019s car had not been drinking, Biden claimed on multiple occasions that he was drunk.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/nb\/warner-todd-huston\/2008\/09\/20\/why-media-allowing-joe-biden-lie-about-drunk-driver-killing\"><span>2001<\/span><\/a><span>: \u201cIt was an errant driver who stopped to drink instead of drive and hit a tractor-trailer, hit my children and my wife and killed them.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/12\/14\/us\/politics\/14biden.html\"><span>2007<\/span><\/a><span>:&nbsp; \u201cA tractor-trailer, a guy who allegedly \u2014 and I never pursued it \u2014 drank his lunch instead of eating his lunch, broadsided my family and killed my wife instantly and killed my daughter instantly and hospitalized my two sons.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>2019: In a Politico <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/magazine\/story\/2019\/01\/25\/joe-biden-2019-profile-grief-beau-car-accident-224178\/\">piece<\/a> titled \u201cHow Grief Became Joe Biden\u2019s \u2018Superpower,\u2019\u201d the wife of the accused driver, Pamela Hamill, said \u201cThe family feels these statements are both hurtful and untrue and we didn\u2019t know where they originated from,\u201d and that Biden \u201capologized for hurting [her] family in any way,\u201d after CBS<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/driver-in-biden-crash-wanted-name-cleared\/\"><span>reported<\/span><\/a> <span>on Biden\u2019s unsubstantiated claims.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>1973<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Biden<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/outlook\/2020\/04\/28\/progressives-biden-moved-left\/\"><span>described<\/span><\/a> <span>the Roe v. Wade verdict as \u201cwrongly decided.\u201d On January 22, 2021, the Biden administration released a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2021\/01\/22\/statement-from-president-biden-and-vice-president-harris-on-the-48th-anniversary-of-roe-v-wade\/\">statement<\/a> saying \u201cThe Biden-Harris Administration is committed to codifying&nbsp;<em>Roe v. Wade&nbsp;<\/em>and appointing judges that respect foundational precedents like Roe.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Speaking to a gay activist, Biden<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newspapers.com\/clip\/53510488\/the-morning-news\/\"><span>stated<\/span><\/a><span>, \u201cMy gut reaction is that they (homosexuals) are security risks but I must admit I haven\u2019t given this much thought\u2026I\u2019ll be darned!\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>1974:<\/strong> <span>Biden says that Roe v. Wade \u201cwent too far.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>1976:<\/strong> <span>Voted for the Hyde Amendment, which prevented the use of federal funds for abortion in almost all cases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>1977<\/strong><span>:<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2020-election\/biden-s-long-evolution-abortion-rights-still-holds-surprises-n1013846\"><span>Voted<\/span><\/a> <span>against a compromise to allow Medicaid to fund abortions that included exceptions for rape and incest, as well as concerns for the life of the mother.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>1981<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Voted to remove \u201crape and incest\u201d exceptions in abortion law.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>The Foreign Assistance Act of 1981 still contains a \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/fas.org\/sgp\/crs\/row\/R41360.pdf\"><span>Biden amendment<\/span><\/a><span>\u201d which was<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2020\/05\/joe-biden-papers-would-reveal-flip-flops-notable-policy-stances\/\"><span>added<\/span><\/a> <span>\u201cto ban American aid from being used in research related to abortions.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>1983<\/strong><span>: Voted to \u201cprohibit federal workers from using health insurance on abortion services, with the only exception being to save the life of the mother.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>1987<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Biden\u2019s first presidential campaign, declaring his candidacy on June 9, 1987. In September, he was accused of plagiarizing a speech by British Labour Party leader Neil Kinnock. Earlier that year, he had also used passages from a speech by Robert F. Kennedy and a phrase from President John F. Kennedy\u2019s inaugural address. In 1985, he used a 1976 passage by Hubert Humphrey. During the campaign, he made several false claims about his early life, including that he had earned three degrees in college, that he attended law school on a full scholarship, that he had graduated in the top half of his class, and that he had marched in the civil rights movement. He withdrew from the race on September 23, 1987.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>When he became chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, he<\/span> <span>\u201ctold aides his goal was to enact legislation that would take a comprehensive approach to reducing crime\u201d as the country battled with an ongoing violent crime epidemic.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>1988<\/strong><span>: After previously approving of his hypothetical nomination, Biden stated his opposition to the nomination of Robert Bork to the Supreme Court. Biden then oversaw the hearings, which resulted in the term \u201cborking,\u201d which means to obstruct a candidate by using tactics of defamation or vilification.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>1991<\/strong><span>: Biden also oversaw Clarence Thomas\u2019 nomination hearings, which now Justice Thomas described as a \u201chigh-tech lynching for uppity blacks who in any way deign to think for themselves, to do for themselves, to have different ideas, and it is a message that unless you kowtow to an old order, this is what will happen to you.\u201d<\/span> <span>\u201cYou will be lynched, destroyed, caricatured by a committee of the U.S. \u2014 U.S. Senate, rather than hung from a tree,\u201d Thomas continued.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>1993<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Biden voted for a provision that deemed homosexuality as incompatible with military life, which effectively banned homosexuals from serving in the United States armed forces.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Biden voted to save the Hyde Amendment.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span><strong>1994<\/strong>:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Biden voted to<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/1994\/08\/02\/us\/senate-backs-cuts-for-schools-that-endorse-homosexuality.html\"><span>cut off funding<\/span><\/a> <span>for schools which taught the acceptance of homosexuality.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>The Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act was also known as the Biden Crime Law, and was<\/span> <span>the largest crime bill in the history of the United States. Biden drafted the Senate version of the legislation in cooperation with the National Association of Police Organizations.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>1996:<\/strong> <span>Biden voted for the Defense of Marriage Act, which prohibited the federal government from recognizing same-sex marriages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>2006:<\/strong> <span>Joe Biden<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonblade.com\/2020\/06\/19\/biden-opposes-same-sex-marriage-in-2006-clip-blasted-out-by-trump-campaign\/\"><span>confirmed his position<\/span><\/a> <span>that \u201cmarriage is between a man and a woman.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>2007<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Biden<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politifact.com\/factchecks\/2007\/sep\/27\/joe-biden\/biden-way-off-on-alcohol-related-birth-defects\/\"><span>said<\/span><\/a> <span>\u201cThere are 300,000 babies born deformed every year in this country because of women who are alcoholics while they\u2019re carrying those children to term,\u201d with Politifact reporting that the \u201c<\/span><span>National Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome states that about 40,000 children are born each year suffering from Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>December 31: Biden said \u201cBarack Obama hasn\u2019t passed any [bills],\u201d when Obama had sponsored a bill that later became law.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>December 31: Biden said \u201cJohn [Edwards] doesn\u2019t have a record in the Senate. John\u2019s only passed four bills. They\u2019re all about post offices,\u201d despite the fact that Sen. Edwards had a central role in enacting other laws, including \u201cKristen\u2019s Law,\u201d which directed funds to be used to find missing persons.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2012<\/strong><span>:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>April 1: Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politifact.com\/factchecks\/2012\/apr\/09\/joe-biden\/vice-president-joe-biden-says-general-motors-large\/\">claimed<\/a> that \u201cGeneral Motors is the largest corporation in the world again,\u201d even though neither Forbes nor Fortune ranked GM as the world\u2019s largest company at the time.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>May 8: Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/foreignpolicy.com\/2012\/05\/10\/isolated-from-reality-on-iran\/\">claimed<\/a> that \u201cWhen we took office, let me remind you, there was virtually no international pressure on Iran,\u201d while multiple governments and banking institutions were applying pressure to the terror sponsor.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2016<\/strong><span>:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>April 29: Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@VPOTUS\/my-remarks-at-the-vatican-about-the-worlds-efforts-to-fight-cancer-757a611ee550#.5ffkzi1n3\">said<\/a> \u201cIn the United States alone we lose more than 3,000 people a day to cancer,\u201d while estimates suggest the actual figure is around half that.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2019<\/strong><span>:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>May 1: Biden<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/joe-jill-biden-respond-women-made-uncomfortable\/story?id=62665123\"><span>claimed<\/span><\/a> <span>that he \u201cwas always labeled as one of the most liberal members of the United States Congress,\u201d which given his record is demonstrably untrue.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>September 3: Biden<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/templates\/transcript\/transcript.php?storyId=756872790\"><span>claimed<\/span><\/a> <span>that he opposed the Iraq War \u201cimmediately, the moment it started,\u201d despite supporting the decision at the time.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>September 12: Biden claimed that the Obama administration \u201cdidn\u2019t lock people up in cages,\u201d despite famous photos depicting such \u201ccages\u201d were taken in 2014.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2020<\/strong><span>:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>May 22: During the infamous \u201cyou ain\u2019t black\u201d<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rev.com\/transcript-editor\/shared\/VBLsK6tVFRoPXG5fL9JIbAX45j_v3qRhyQ9ZbU7YI8uRz6XliLEINEkJlDEvk7hvETsZoCtwStIc6t7uDvl7rzmCDW4?loadFrom=PastedDeeplink&amp;ts=1055.03\"><span>interview<\/span><\/a><span>, Biden also claimed \u201cThe NAACP has endorsed me every time I\u2019ve run.\u201d NAACP CEO Derrick Johnson debunked this claim, saying that the NAACP is \u201c<\/span><span>a nonpartisan organization and does not endorse candidates for political office at any level.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>July 22: Biden<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/watch\/live\/?v=634263304175398&amp;ref=watch_permalink\"><span>said<\/span><\/a> <span>\u201cWe\u2019ve had racists, and they\u2019ve existed, they\u2019ve tried to get elected president. [Trump\u2019s] the first one that has.\u201d Given that previous presidents have held slaves, held racist views, or engaged in racist rhetoric, this is obviously false.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>October 15: Biden<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rev.com\/blog\/transcripts\/joe-biden-abc-town-hall-transcript-october-15\"><span>claimed<\/span><\/a> <span>that \u201cThe boilermakers union has endorsed me because I sat down with them and went into great detail with leadership [about] exactly what I would do,\u201d even though he was never endorsed.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Ian Haworth is an Editor and Writer for The Daily Wire.
