The couple, now on trial for multiple fraud charges, claim they were set up by a former business partner. A former employee has now testified that she was instructed to commit financial fraud in order to destroy the Chrisley\u2019s lives, Insider <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insider.com\/todd-chrisleys-employee-testified-ruining-his-life-2022-5\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Even before the Chrisley\u2019s began their reality TV show in 2014, they had financial problems. In 2012, Todd filed for bankruptcy protection, with his lawyer <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/tv\/chrisley-knows-best-inside-todd-chrisleys-45-million-bankruptcy-case\/\">telling<\/a> People at the time that the filing was due to a failed real estate development loan. Todd, a real estate mogul, originally filed in Florida, even though he had never lived there, WSB-TV <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsbtv.com\/news\/local\/north-fulton-county\/state-issues-liens-against-reality-star-after-channel-2-investigation\/505362349\/\">reported<\/a> in 2017. The filing as eventually moved to Georgia.<\/p>\n<p>The outlet reported that Julie admitted in taped deposition, under oath, that the family didn\u2019t live in Florida, and one of their sons, Kyle, claimed his dad bragged about not living in the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think he\u2019s trying to hide money,\u201d Kyle Chrisley told the outlet. \u201cHe doesn\u2019t like to pay what he owes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>WSB-TV also reported that the Chrisleys owed nearly $800,000 in taxes to the state of Georgia and had declared their residency on numerous public records before moving to Nashville, Tennessee, in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>In 2018, Todd sued Homebanc Mortgage Corporation, Radar Online <a href=\"https:\/\/radaronline.com\/exclusives\/2019\/08\/todd-chrisley-blamed-business-partner-morgage-forgery-before-indictment-scandal\/\">reported<\/a>, alleging his former business partner, Mark Braddock, forged Chrisley\u2019s name on the mortgage and made some payments on his behalf.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlaintiff did not sign the Mortgage or the accompanying documents and the same contains a forgery of Plaintiff\u2019s name,\u201d Todd alleged court documents, according to the outlet. \u201cPlaintiff believes that a former business partner signed his name on the Mortgage and made various payments on the Mortgage on his behalf.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Todd also claimed that this same business partner is the reason he had to file for bankruptcy protection in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, the Chrisleys were indicted \u201con charges of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, conspiracy to defraud the United States, and tax evasion,\u201d Insider <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insider.com\/who-are-the-chrisleys-reality-tv-family-tax-fraud-case-2022-5\">reported<\/a>. Chrisley blamed \u201ca trusted employee\u201d for the family\u2019s problems.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt all started back in 2012, when we discovered that a trusted employee of ours had been stealing from us big time. I won\u2019t go into details, but it involved all kinds of really bad stuff like creating phony documents, forging our signatures, and threatening other employees with violence if they said anything,\u201d Todd <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/B1FBsnfn_4q\/?utm_source=ig_embed&#038;ig_rid=e8b69632-0b5c-4d0e-98ae-70de4e3e737c\">wrote<\/a> on Instagram in August 2019. \u201cWe even discovered that he illegally bugged our home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Todd said that to \u201cget revenge,\u201d Braddock \u201ctook a bunch of his phony documents to the U.S. Attorney\u2019s office and told them we had committed all kinds of financial crimes, like tax evasion and bank fraud.\u201d Todd said that they explained the situation and the U.S. Attorney\u2019s office stopped pursuing the case, but Braddock took the information to a different set of investigators, who reopened the case and granted him immunity in exchange for his testimony.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, Todd said he expected to be indicted, and he was.<\/p>\n<p>He and his wife have now been on trial for two weeks, and on Tuesday, a woman who worked at Todd\u2019s asset management company testified that Braddock directed her to commit financial fraud to destroy Todd, Insider reported.<\/p>\n<p>Donna Cash testified that Braddock had her send fake financial documents to loan companies and lied about the companies, but said she stopped following his orders when the Chrisleys were about to lose their home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did some bad things but that was one thing I wasn\u2019t going to do,\u201d Cash testified, adding that she called Todd to come back from vacation early so he wouldn\u2019t come home to a foreclosed house.<\/p>\n<p>She further testified that \u201cboth Mark and I were lying to [Todd] about everything that was going on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Todd reportedly started investigating the situation, using Cash to keep him informed about Braddock\u2019s deeds, Insider reported.<\/p>\n<p>Braddock has claimed that he committed the fraud at Todd\u2019s direction.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Todd and Julie Chrisley seemed to have it all: Money, a loving family, and a popular reality TV show called \u201cChrisley Knows Best.\u201d But behind the scenes, things weren\u2019t so perfect.
