The company does not currently own any trademarks with that name.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>President Joe Biden signed a bill in June 2021 enshrining <span class=\"il\">Juneteenth, a day that <a href=\"https:\/\/nmaahc.si.edu\/blog-post\/historical-legacy-juneteenth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">commemorates<\/a> the freeing of the slaves in 1865, as a federal holiday, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/biden-juneteenth-federal-holiday-9bb62a3448376e05d87ac79cf27970d2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Associated Press<\/a>. A post shared on Facebook claims a company trademarked the word \u201cJuneteenth\u201d before it could be made a public holiday.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This claim is misleading. While the <a href=\"https:\/\/balchem.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Balchem Corporation<\/a> submitted a trademark application for the word \u201cJuneteenth\u201d to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in September 2021, according to the office\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/tmsearch.uspto.gov\/bin\/gate.exe?f=login&#038;p_lang=english&#038;p_d=trmk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">records<\/a>, the application was later abandoned.\u00a0The submission sought to cover \u201cflavor enhancers used in food and beverage products\u201d including bakery goods, records show.<\/p>\n<p>The listing declared the indicator of the trademark as \u201cdead,\u201d meaning the listing is no longer being pursued or active.
