It\u2019s now dubbed the Grand Central Madison due to its location underneath the iconic Grand Central Terminal.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Proud to announce that the new terminal connecting <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LIRR?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@LIRR<\/a> to the East Side officially has a name: Grand Central Madison!<\/p>\n<p>The largest passenger rail terminal to be built in the U.S. since the 1950s, this project will be game-changing for the entire downstate region &#038; its visitors.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Governor Kathy Hochul (@GovKathyHochul) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovKathyHochul\/status\/1531688599296659456?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 31, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The 700,000 square foot station is an $11.1 billion project. The construction, which took 14 years to complete, will connect the Long Island Railroad to Manhattan\u2019s East Side. It\u2019s the largest Long Island Rail Road expansion in 112 years.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cThe future is 2022; this will be accomplished, completed in its entirety,\u201d stated New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D). \u201cNo more dragging heels, no more putting it off, no more delays because people have been waiting a long time to have a world class experience when they board the trains at their home on Long Island.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">When the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LIRR?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@LIRR<\/a> was built, 37,000 people lived on Long Island.
