That\u2019s according to recent retail data firm Datasembly, which found the national spike to be more extreme in certain cities and states for the week ending May 21.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The baby formula shortage NEVER should have happened.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Rep. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox19.com\/2022\/05\/31\/loveland-baby-with-rare-disorder-highlights-those-overlooked-formula-shortage\/\">an exclusive report<\/a>, 14-year-old Morgan Furhman has a rare genetic disorder and needs a specialized formula.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cBecause of her disorder, her life expectancy isn\u2019t what a typical person would be,\u201d explained the teen\u2019s mother, Kathy Furhman. \u201cIf the formula, if that was the reason, I don\u2019t think I could ever forgive myself.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As the shortage worsens, some parents are feeling responsible. While the US is working to get more baby formula back on shelves, some practitioners are blaming the shortage on a drop in breast feeding rates, which is a problem they said increased during the pandemic.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The baby formula crisis started long before the Abbott recall.<\/p>\n<p>Our country is failing and the Biden admin\u2019s government solutions are not solving the crisis.<\/p>\n<p>America is like a third world country now incapable of providing food for our babies. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/W8kuSlWmav\">https:\/\/t.co\/W8kuSlWmav<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Rep. Some have even tried making their own formula at home.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cIt doesn\u2019t take much to make a baby become very sick,\u201d warned Jessica Smith, Pediatrician at Mercy Clinic Pediatrics. \u201cCan have seizures, not get the calories they need and end up in the hospital, so it is not safe to make your own formula at home.
