Peter Doocy about whether the president would support legislation similar to Canada that would implement a &#8220;national freeze on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/us\/personal-freedoms\/second-amendment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">handgun ownership<\/a>&#8221; in that country.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He supports a ban on sales of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines and expanded background checks to keep guns out of dangerous hands,&#8221; she said. &#8220;He does not support a ban on the sale of all handguns.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a bill to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/world\/canadas-trudeau-freeze-handgun-ownership-mandatory-buybacks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">freeze handgun ownership<\/a> following the killing of 19 children and two teachers in Uvalde, Texas.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/beto-orourke-ar-15-owners-shouldnt-keep-them\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>BETO O&#8217;ROURKE SAYS AR-15 OWNERS SHOULDN&#8217;T \u2018BE ABLE TO KEEP THEM\u2019<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"image-ct inline\">\n<div class=\"m\"><source media=\"(max-width: 767px)\" \/><source media=\"(min-width: 767px)\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/a57.foxnews.com\/static.foxnews.com\/foxnews.com\/content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/640\/320\/AP22151702840830.jpg?ve=1&#038;tl=1\" alt=\"White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said President Biden does not support a ban on all handgun sales.\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"caption\">\n<p>\n      White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said President Biden does not support a ban on all handgun sales.<br \/>\n      <span class=\"copyright\">(AP)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#8220;What this means is that it will no longer be possible to buy, sell, transfer or import handguns anywhere in Canada,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/person\/justin-trudeau\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>Trudeau said at a press conference<\/u><\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We recognize that the vast majority of gun owners use them safely and in accordance with the law, but other than using firearms for sport shooting and hunting, there is no reason anyone in Canada should need guns in their everyday lives.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>That same day, Biden appeared to suggest that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/us\/personal-freedoms\/second-amendment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">9mm be characterized as &#8216;high-caliber&#8217; weapons<\/a> and should be banned. The remarks came outside the White House following his trip to Uvalde.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Recounting a visit to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/us\/us-regions\/northeast\/new-york\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>New York<\/u><\/a> trauma hospital, Biden said doctors showed him X-rays of gunshot wounds.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They said a .22-caliber bullet will lodge in the lung, and we can probably get it out \u2014 may be able to get it and save the life.
