Six of those gun controls would not have prevented the Uvalde attack.<\/p>\n<p>Those six include background checks for \u201cghost guns,\u201d gun storage requirements for homes with minors present, additional penalties for gun trafficking and straw purchases, a bump stock ban, and a requirement that existing bump stocks be registered under the auspices of the National Firearms Act.<\/p>\n<p>The measures change the definition of \u201cghost guns,\u201d so that a background check on such guns would be required going forward.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The \u201cProtecting Our Kids Act\u201d contains a ban on bump stocks, although a bump stock ban was put in place by the Department of Justice in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The language of the bump stock ban was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2018\/12\/18\/bump-stock-ban-doj\/\">announced<\/a>\u00a0by the DOJ in December 2018, and owners of those firearm accessories were given 90 days to turn them in. The ban became effective on March 26, 2019, and remains in effect today.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the six gun controls that would not have prevented Uvalde, the Democrats are pushing a \u201chigh capacity\u201d magazine ban. This ban would not prevent attacks either.<\/p>\n<p>On December 30, 2012, a review board that studied the April 16, 2007, Virginia Tech shooting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2012\/12\/30\/virginia-tech-review-panel-high-capacity-magazine-ban-would-not-have-stopped-2007-mass-shooting\/\">found<\/a> that a ban on \u201chigh capacity\u201d magazines would have had a negligible impact on the outcome of the attack.\u00a0The review panel\u00a0said making the attacker use ten-round magazines instead of mags that hold 15 rounds \u201c<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/www.governor.virginia.gov\/tempcontent\/techPanelReport-docs\/10%20CHAPTER%20VI%20GUN%20PURCHASE%20AND%20CAMPUS%20GUN%20POLICIES.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">would have not<\/a>\u00a0made that much difference in the incident.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>AWR Hawkins is an award-winning Second Amendment columnist for Breitbart News<\/em><em>\u00a0and the writer\/curator of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/downrange\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Down Range with AWR Hawkins<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em><em>a weekly newsletter focused o<\/em><em>n al<\/em><em>l things Second Amendment, also for Breitbart News.
