McConnell is a rational Republican. Sen. McConnell said today that the group of lawmakers that are talking about guns in the wake of Uvalde are talking about the problem which is, quote, \u2018mental illness and school safety,&#8217;\u201d Collins said. \u201cDoes the president agree that that\u2019s the problem here?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen the president said that, he believes that there are some rational Republicans in the Senate who can come together and work on a bipartisan bill, and Mitch McConnell is one of those folks. He does not believe, and we\u2019ve talked about this, he\u2019s talked about this, we are the only country that is dealing with gun violence at the rate that we\u2019re dealing. Other countries have mental health issues, so what\u2019s the problem here?\u201d Jean Pierre said, noting the problem is guns and that is Biden\u2019s focus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know what he said specifically about schools, I know there\u2019s been conversations about hardening schools, that is not something he believes in,\u201d Jean Pierre said. \u201cHe believes that we should be able to give teachers the resources to be able to do the job that they\u2019re meant to do at schools. This is something that he\u2019s been focusing on since he was the Vice President, so those are two things that he does not agree on but look, he thinks there\u2019s a way for senators to come together \u2026 and that\u2019s what he\u2019s going to continue to call for.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Republicans have called to \u201charden\u201d schools in the wake of the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/26\/uvalde-student-covered-blood-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Uvalde<\/a> shooting, with former President Donald Trump saying Friday while at the National Rifle Association conference that the Republican Party is looking to \u201cfinally harden our schools and protect our children,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/blog-briefing-room\/news\/3504604-gop-pitches-hardening-schools-as-uvalde-security-failures-emerge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Hill<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we need now is a top-to-bottom security overhaul at schools all across our country,\u201d Trump reportedly said. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/30\/joe-biden-9mm-bullet-blows-lung-out-body\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Biden Claims 9mm Bullet \u2018Blows The Lung Out Of The Body,\u2019 Then Immediately Says \u2018There\u2019s No Rational Basis\u2019 For High Caliber Weapons)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Among the proposals include one point of entry, fencing, metal detectors and armed security, according to The Hill.<\/p>\n<p>A group of <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/31\/senate-democrats-republicans-bipartisan-meeting-gun-violence-uvalde-texas-school-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bipartisan senators<\/a> have been discussing ways to make school safer, with Democratic Connecticut Sen.
