Special Counsel John Durham subsequently charged Sussmann last year with one count of lying to the FBI, and the prosecution argued during the trial that the case could be <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/17\/look-leak-lie-john-durham-prosecutor-michael-sussmann\/\">summed<\/a> up as \u201ca look, a leak and a lie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The federal jury began deliberations on Friday after hearing from an array of <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/20\/hillary-clinton-approved-spreading-trump-russia-claims-media-robby-mook\/\">witnesses<\/a>, including current FBI officials. REUTERS\/Julia Nikhinson<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>During the trial, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/19\/former-fbi-james-baker-john-durham-confident-michael-sussmann\/\">former<\/a> FBI general counsel James Baker expressed \u201c100%\u201d confidence that\u00a0Sussmann told him the tip he provided was not on behalf of any campaign or client.\u00a0Durham accused Sussmann of providing the tip to the FBI while keeping secret his connection to Clinton\u2019s campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Durham\u2019s team also laid out the argument that Sussmann tried to \u201ccreate an October surprise on the eve of the presidential election,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/lawandcrime.com\/russia-investigation\/durham-prosecutor-kicks-off-false-statement-trial-by-accusing-michael-sussmann-of-using-fbi-as-a-political-tool-for-democrats\/\">according<\/a> to Law and Crime.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">BREAKING: Jury finds DC lawyer Michael Sussmann NOT GUILTY on charge of lying to the FBI \u2013 big loss for special counsel John Durham in 1st trial of his more than three-year investigation.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Alex Mallin (@alex_mallin) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/alex_mallin\/status\/1531666368428392454?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 31, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Sussmann, however, has maintained that he presented the tip to the FBI in\u201dgood-faith,\u201d CNN reported. Sussmann also denied trying to hide his ties to the Clinton campaign, according to the network.<\/p>\n<p>The acquittal is a blow to Durham, who has spent years diving into the Trump-Russia probe, CNN reported. It\u2019s also Durham\u2019s first trial amid his three-plus year investigation, ABC News reporter Alex Mallin <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/alex_mallin\/status\/1531666368428392454\">tweeted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\" data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_96E0E700-F660-3B05-E9FB-1AE007449B73\" data-act-id=\"paragraph_1\">Sussmann pleaded not guilty and did not take the stand during the trial.
