But some of his <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/biden-claims-a-9mm-bullet-blows-the-lung-out-of-the-body-and-people-couldnt-own-cannons-in-1776\/\">claims<\/a> \u2014 namely the notion that a 9 mm bullet \u201cblows the lung out of the body\u201d along with his oft-repeated assertion that individuals could not buy cannons when the Second Amendment was written \u2014 have prompted critics to call him out.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Caller\u2019s David Hookstead commented on Biden\u2019s claim regarding 9 mm bullets, asking, \u201cWill fact checkers be flagging his comment as misinformation?\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;The 9mm bullet blows the lung out of the body.&#8221; \u2013 President Joe Biden<\/p>\n<p>Will the fact checkers be flagging his comment as misinformation? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/fFPPf7Cv44\">pic.twitter.com\/fFPPf7Cv44<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 David Hookstead (@dhookstead) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/dhookstead\/status\/1531306086917189633?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 30, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In addition to his assertion about 9 mm bullets, Biden also repeated the debunked claim that individual citizens could not purchase cannons when the Second Amendment was written.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;The Constitution, the Second Amendment was never absolute. You couldn\u2019t buy a cannon when the Second Amendment was passed,&#8221; Biden said. &#8220;I think things have gotten so bad that everybody is getting more rational about it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Shelby Talcott (@ShelbyTalcott) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ShelbyTalcott\/status\/1531274563962773504?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 30, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/tv\/jonathan-turley-blasts-biden-saying-cannons-couldnt-be-bought-when-second-amendment-was-ratified-disinformation\/\">responded<\/a> by suggesting that the president was trafficking in \u201cdisinformation,\u201d addressing Biden\u2019s push for gun control during an appearance on Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a real chilling effect on people talking about the facts of gun control. You know, people want to suggest that you can simply legislate away gun violence. That\u2019s not going to happen. There\u2019s 400 million weapons in this country, 15 million of which are estimated to be AR-15s,\u201d Turley said. \u201cBut it also is a fact that when we banned assault weapons for that earlier period there was not an appreciable decrease in gun violence associated with it. So we can have what the president calls a common sense discussion, but we need to be able to deal with it on a factual rather than purely rhetorical way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd it\u2019s got to start with the president. Today he repeated a clearly false statement about the Second Amendment,\u201d Turley continued. \u201cMany of us have repeatedly said that his statement that you could not own a cannon or other weapons when the Second Amendment was ratified is untrue. Even The Washington Post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2021\/06\/28\/bidens-false-claim-that-2nd-amendment-bans-cannon-ownership\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">admitted it\u2019s untrue<\/a> and yet the president keeps on repeating that as a defense for his call for gun control.
