though it was Memorial Day, a national patriotic holiday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Constitution, the Second Amendment was never absolute,\u201d Biden said to reporters.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>The president spoke to reporters about gun control as he returned to Washington, DC, from Delaware for Memorial Day ceremonies.<\/p>\n<p>Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/02\/03\/fact-check-joe-biden-again-falsely-claims-americans-couldnt-buy-a-cannon-under-2a\/\">falsely<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/06\/26\/fact-check-biden-falsely-claims-you-couldnt-buy-a-cannon-under-2nd-amendment\/\">claimed<\/a> again that Americans were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/04\/11\/biden-uses-gun-control-announcement-to-renew-false-claim-that-early-americans-couldnt-buy-a-cannon\/\">unable<\/a> to purchase a cannon when the Second Amendment was passed, despite being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2021\/06\/28\/bidens-false-claim-that-2nd-amendment-bans-cannon-ownership\/\">repeatedly<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politifact.com\/factchecks\/2020\/jun\/29\/joe-biden\/joe-bidens-dubious-claim-about-revolutionary-war-c\/\">fact-checked<\/a> as false by even the <em>Washington Post<\/em> and Politifact.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou couldn\u2019t buy a cannon when the Second Amendment was passed and you couldn\u2019t go out and purchase a lot of weapons,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Biden recalled a briefing he had when he was a senator on bullet calibers and the damage they caused to the human body.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe 22 caliber bullet will lodge in the lungs and we can get it out,\u201d Biden said. \u201cA 9 mm bullet blows the lung out of the body.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe idea of a high caliber weapon, there is no rationale for it in terms of self-protection, hunting,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Biden also referred to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monticello.org\/site\/research-and-collections\/tree-liberty-quotation\">quote<\/a> from Thomas Jefferson who said \u201cthe tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants,\u201d tying it in with his argument about the Second Amendment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was a while there, where people were saying, you know, the tree of liberty is watered with the blood of patriots, and what we have to do is to be able take on the government when they are wrong,\u201d Biden said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Biden argued in order for citizens to hold the government accountable with equal levels of force, Americans would have to own a fighter jet or a tank.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_21183131\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">(Photo by DAVID MCNEW\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cTo do that you need an F-15, you need an Abrams tank,\u201d he said, suggesting it was an outrageous idea.<\/p>\n<p>Biden revealed he had not had any conversations with Republicans on the issue of gun control but said he wanted to act.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know that it makes no sense to be able to be able to purchase something that can fire up to 300 rounds,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Biden told reporters he spent over three hours and 40 minutes with the grieving families of the school shooting victims in Ulvada, Texas, on
