The World Health Organization has identified 257 confirmed cases of the virus across 23 nations, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p>An image shared on Facebook shows a screenshot of a tweet that claims the FDA recently approved a vaccine for the virus produced by Pfizer. \u201cJust to be clear\u2026 One case of \u2018MonkeyPox\u2019 was found in Massachusetts this week\u2026 In less than 48 hours the United States Government had purchased 13 million MonkeyPox vaccines for $119 million,\u201d reads the tweet. \u201cA day later, Pfizer received FDA approval for a New Monkey Pox Vaccine..\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There is no evidence Pfizer has created a monkeypox vaccine. Nothing about the alleged vaccine can be found on the company\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pfizer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a>. Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla recently said he \u201cwouldn\u2019t worry much\u201d about the current monkeypox outbreak, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/05\/25\/pfizer-wouldnt-worry-about-monkeypox-cuts-drug-costs-for-low-income.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CNBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Julia Cohen, a senior manager for global relations at Pfizer, told Check Your Fact in an email the company \u201cdoes not currently have a vaccine for monkeypox in development or approved by the FDA or an active program in place.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/02\/23\/fact-check-australia-scott-morrison-fake-coronavirus-vaccine\/\">(RELATED: No, Australia\u2019s Prime Minister Did Not Fake Getting The Covid-19 Vaccine)<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cJynneos is the only vaccine approved by the FDA for the prevention of monkeypox,\u201d said FDA spokesperson Abby Capobianco in an email to Check Your Fact.<\/p>\n<p>Jynneos, which is manufactured by Bavarian Nordic, was approved in 2019 and protects against both monkeypox and smallpox, according to a 2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/news-events\/press-announcements\/fda-approves-first-live-non-replicating-vaccine-prevent-smallpox-and-monkeypox\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FDA press release<\/a>. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/emergency-preparedness-and-response\/mcm-issues\/smallpox-preparedness-and-response-updates-fda\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FDA website<\/a> does not list any new vaccines that have been approved for monkeypox or smallpox since Jynneos.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. government, through the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA),\u00a0did recently purchase 13 million Jynneos vaccines, according to a press release from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bavarian-nordic.com\/investor\/news\/news.aspx?news=6569\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bavarian Nordic<\/a>.
