The position was initially $500 million before the business \u201cwent up a lot,\u201d according to the Tesla CEO.<\/p>\n<p>The share price of Tesla has seen a 20-fold increase since 2019, from $37 a share back in 2019 to the current trading value at around $760 per each, reaching an all-time high late last year of $1,222 per share, a 30-fold increase.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince Gates still has a multi-billion dollar short position against Tesla while claiming to help with global warming, I guess I have some trust issues with him too,\u201d Musk wrote on May 27.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">It was $500M, but then Tesla went up a lot, so now it\u2019s $1.5B to $2B to close it out<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Elon Musk (@elonmusk) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1530345590210678784?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 28, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It is not the first time for him to question Gates\u2019s commitment to help to address climate challenges, as the later has been betting on the Musk-operated electric vehicle company\u2019s stock prices dropping. Musk previously had confirmed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/elon-musk-rebuffs-bill-gates-climate-philanthropy-request-in-scathing-text_4422628.html\">leaked text exchange<\/a> with Gates, unveiling that the former world\u2019s richest person admitted to short-selling Tesla shares. According to the conversation record, Musk turned down the other\u2019s request \u201cto discuss philanthropy possibilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSorry, but I cannot take your philanthropy on climate change seriously when you have a massive short position against Tesla, the company doing the most to solve climate change,\u201d Musk said.<\/p>\n<p>Gates\u2019s media relations team didn\u2019t respond to a request for comment by press time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think whether one\u2019s short or long Tesla is a statement about your seriousness about climate change,\u201d Gates told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/livecoverage\/wsj-ceo-council\/card\/bill-gates-says-he-s-not-sure-of-elon-musk-s-goals-with-twitter-RT0kNzdL3l7aBp1km0K3\">The\u00a0Wall Street Journal<\/a> in early May. \u201cI applaud Tesla\u2019s role in helping with climate change,\u201d he added, but did not not directly address his Tesla short position.<\/p>\n<p>The billionaire also approves of\u00a0Musk\u2019s potential impact on Twitter, suggesting that the latter\u2019s plan to purchase the platform would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/bill-gates-claims-elon-musk-could-make-misinformation-worse_4446331.html\">allow for more so-called misinformation<\/a> to proliferate. \u201cThat\u2019s not his track record,\u201d Gates told the Wall Street Journal.<\/p>\n<p>The Tesla CEO has said he would restore free speech to the platform that he described as having \u201ca very far-left bias\u201d and vowed to stop what he calls \u201cwoke mind virus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Musk\u2019s recent remarks followed a now-closed Twitter <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1529974275180052480\">poll<\/a>, asking his followers whether they trust billionaires or politicians less. The result was nearly 76 percent of the 3.4 million respondents voting that they trust politicians less.<\/p>\n<p>Some users then started targeting other billionaires in reply.
