For years, this was ignored,\u201d he said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmwk.de\/Redaktion\/EN\/Pressemitteilungen\/2022\/05\/20220524-federal-minister-habeck-on-china.html\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to Habeck, the government will closely examine \u201cthe environmental, social, and human rights aspects of applications from German companies for guarantees of investments in China\u201d to exclude the possibility of human rights violations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis scrutiny also looks at whether the Xinjiang region is involved. Applications which do not meet the requirements are rejected,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt [the European Union] level, too, closer attention should be paid to state subsidies to Chinese competitors wanting to operate here in the single market.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Volkswagen operates a factory in Urumchi, the capital city of the Xinjiang region.
