Nancy Mace (SC), who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/04\/14\/anti-trump-rep-nancy-mace-hammered-for-pushing-trump-backed-policies\/\">claims<\/a> to still support the policies of former President Donald Trump while in a heated primary battle, trashed him during a text message exchange with a former supporter\u00a0following last year\u2019s January 6 riot.<\/p>\n<p>In the messages obtained by\u00a0Breitbart News, Mace\u00a0said she \u201cwill never forgive\u201d the former president\u00a0following the January 6\u00a0riot while also claiming that her\u00a0\u201clife was threatened because of the words and actions of the President.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cMy life was threatened because of the words and actions of the President. Words have consequences,\u201d Mace texted a former supporter, who leaked the messages to Breitbart News. \u201cI cannot explain or excuse the violent attack on our Capitol\u2026 I had to walk through a crime scene to vote last night,\u201d Mace continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnacceptable. Indefensible,\u201d she added, while blaming some of her fellow Republican lawmakers for the events that happened in January 2021, the text messages revealed.<\/p>\n<p>She wrote that the riot occurred \u201cbecause of the rhetoric [Trump] and some of my Republican colleagues were using in the days leading up to this event.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>However, what the congresswoman\u00a0conveyed in her private conversations differ from the public remarks she made at the time \u2014 which never went as far as the\u00a0language used in the text messages.<\/p>\n<p>The congresswoman, who was backed by Trump in 2020 when she successfully unseated Rep.\u00a0Joe Cunningham (D-SC), publicly turned on the former president days after the riot.<\/p>\n<p>During an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/meet-the-press\/video\/full-mace-interview-trump-put-all-of-our-lives-at-risk-99597381587?cid=sm_npd_nn_tw_mtp\">appearance<\/a> on MSNBC\u2019s\u00a0<em>Meet the Press,<\/em> she used the line about walking through a crime scene to vote and how it was \u201cenormously disappointing\u201d to see her party\u2019s leadership and\u00a0almost 150 of her Republican colleagues vote to still not certify the election, as a freshman member.<\/p>\n<p>Her public remarks\u00a0drew the ire of Trump, who called her a\u00a0\u201csellout,\u201d in the days after.<\/p>\n<p>Despite all of this, in February 2022, Mace seemed to pull a 180 as she traveled to\u00a0New York City to stand outside Trump Tower on Fifth Ave to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NancyMace\/status\/1491809594070421506?s=20&#038;utm_source=newsletter&#038;utm_medium=email&#038;utm_term=bulldog&#038;utm_campaign=%7Bdate%28%27yyyyMMdd%27%2C%20time%28%22now%22%29%29#038;t=BSOZc8tHVih6g6mKT3OtKw\">record a campaign video<\/a> about her support for the former president \u2014 the same person she claimed \u201cthreatened her life\u201d a year earlier, and whom she said she would \u201cnever forgive.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I\u2019m standing in front of Trump Tower with a message this morning\u2026<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SC01?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#SC01<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/LowcountryFirst?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#LowcountryFirst<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/CpmMYA63qt\">pic.twitter.com\/CpmMYA63qt<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Nancy Mace (@NancyMace) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NancyMace\/status\/1491809594070421506?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 10, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Trump threw his support behind Mace\u2019s primary challenger, Katie Arrington, in the wake of her comments and as many Republicans in her district turned on her.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>And in April 2022, amid a heated primary battle, Trump-backed Arrington called out\u00a0Mace for being a\u00a0hypocrite for trying to tout the former president\u2019s border and vaccine policies in a campaign ad looking to score points with his base before the primary.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Watch:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>In response to the ad,\u00a0Arrington campaign spokesman Chris D\u2019Anna <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/04\/14\/anti-trump-rep-nancy-mace-hammered-for-pushing-trump-backed-policies\/\">thanked<\/a> the congresswoman for emphasizing her hypocrisy in a statement to\u00a0Breitbart News.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNancy Mace\u2019s new ad goes to show just how much the D.C. swamp has control of her,\u201d D\u2019Anna said. \u201cShe must think voters are either stupid or have short memories because not long ago, she famously appeared on Fox and CNN on the same day, hours apart and wearing the same outfit, to spew two different answers on COVID vaccines.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPoliticians are gonna \u2018politician,\u2019 but the voters of the low country know a self-serving sellout when they see one,\u201d\u00a0D\u2019Anna added, pointing to last year when Mace also\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/04\/14\/anti-trump-rep-nancy-mace-hammered-for-pushing-trump-backed-policies\/\">flip-flopped<\/a> on live TV.<\/p>\n<p><i>Breitbart News\u2019 Politics Editor, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/author\/ejmorris\/\">Emma-Jo Morris<\/a> contributed to this report.\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Jacob Bliss is a reporter for Breitbart News.
