Nevertheless, the special counsel is dealing with something extraordinarily significant.<\/p>\n<p>He holds in his hands the future of democratic government under the law, republican (small r) or otherwise, as we know it\u2014if not forever, for the foreseeable future.<\/p>\n<p>Although he\u2019s been accused of going slowly\u2014how could it have been otherwise, really, with COVID lockdowns, even though unjustified\u2014so far he is doing a remarkable job. He has demonstrated how the colossal and pernicious lie that Donald Trump was in collusion with Russia originated with people working for the Hillary Clinton campaign (via a made-up connection to a Russian bank) that was approved and later promulgated by Hillary herself.<\/p>\n<p>Some of this renewed clarity is because of Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook actually telling the truth in court about what happened, whether for fear of perjury or some iota of basic morality.<\/p>\n<p>When you look in the eyes of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-michael-sussmann\">Michael Sussmann<\/a>, the onetime Perkins Coie law partner, whose charge of having lied to the FBI has instigated this serial unmasking, you see something far worse than the proverbial deer in the headlights. I see an individual clinging to some semblance of he did this for a \u201cgreater good,\u201d that his ends did justify whatever bending of the means he found necessary.<\/p>\n<p>While this all may not be treason in the technical\/legal sense, it\u2019s certainly as treasonous as any behavior that has come from the political class of either party in any of our lifetimes and, though completely ignored by the legacy media whose culpability in it was nearly total, vastly more serious than Watergate that they still obsess about.<\/p>\n<p>In this case, the attention of the country\u2014indeed the world, including our adversaries\u2014was riveted and the presidency of newly elected President Trump tarnished and nearly upended for a supposed crime that never occurred. Indeed, it\u2019s the Clinton people and their myriad accomplices that committed the real crime\u2014the real Russian collusion\u2014in this ultimate case of projection.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, the whole world watched a massively public display in the USA of something that anyone with a modicum of intelligence would have realized almost immediately was a complete miscarriage of justice. Whether or not you believe in American Exceptionalism, the country that has been almost since its inception the envy of the world was busy stomping on its own institutions and itself to the edge of being unrecognizable. Could our enemies have asked for more?<\/p>\n<p>What will happen now? It may be, even though there is clear email evidence in which the defendant assured then-FBI General Counsel James Baker that he was working as an independent and not a Hillary campaign operative, that given the deep-blue DC jury, Sussman will be acquitted. All he needs is one juror. Having witnessed the O.J. Simpson trial, it\u2019s easy to see how such forms of jury nullification occur. (Have you noticed that no one has come forward in the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman\u2014not even from the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/commentary-faye-resnick-reviled-during-181326155.html\">world of Faye Resnick<\/a>,\u201d as Johnny Cochran put it?)<\/p>\n<p>And for those who might think Sussmann lying to the FBI is a small thing, remember then that he\u2019s lying to all of us. We pay for the existence of the FBI, such as it is, to find the truth and keep us safe\u2014at least we thought we did. And that\u2019s not to mention what then flowed from that lie\u2014the Trump\u2013Russia investigation and so forth.<\/p>\n<p>But back to what will really happen now. It seems that Durham has his eyes on larger prizes than Mr. Sussmann. Ironically, it may not matter all that much whether Sussmann is convicted. The door has been opened to explore the \u201cmyriad accomplices\u201d referred to several paragraphs above and their activities.<\/p>\n<p>The question is\u2014will the buck stop with Hillary or will she be thrown under the bus so the other denizens of our political class from the FBI to the White House can skate?<\/p>\n<p>Now we learn, from the testimony of FBI agent Curtis Heide in the Sussmann trial, that the FBI is conducting an \u201cinternal investigation\u201d of Heide for not including exculpatory information in its investigation of Trump called \u201cCrossfire Hurricane.\u201d (As a sidelight, isn\u2019t it pathetic the would-be hipsters in the FBI named their investigation after a Rolling Stones song?)<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the FBI conducting an \u201cinternal investigation\u201d looks about as legitimate as the KGB conducting a similar investigation. The word whitewash is far too weak.<\/p>\n<p>We humble citizens, or \u201cnormals\u201d as Kurt Schlichter puts it, have been living under a government in which Sussmann\u2014although just another $800-an-hour (from testimony) Beltway lawyer\u2014is a useful symbol. Lying is the way of the Washington Deep State and its most powerful. To them, it\u2019s almost like breathing. Lying for their own benefit and those of their friends are the respirators from which they will never get off.<\/p>\n<p>In March, the New York Post called many of these individuals to account in their editorial \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/03\/18\/intelligence-experts-refuse-to-apologize-for-smearing-hunter-biden-story\/\">Spies who lie: 51 \u2018intelligence\u2019 experts refuse to apologize for discrediting true Hunter Biden story<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are the supposed nonpartisan group of top spies looking out for the best interest of the nation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut the 51 former \u2018intelligence\u2019 officials who cast doubt on <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/03\/18\/how-big-tech-media-and-dems-killed-the-hunter-biden-story\/\">the Post\u2019s Hunter Biden laptop<\/a> stories in a public letter really were just desperate to get Joe Biden elected president. And more than a year later, even after their Deep State sabotage repeatedly has been shown to be a lie, they refuse to own up to how they undermined an election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe officials, including CNN pundit and professional fabricator <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/05\/14\/james-clapper-responds-to-flynn-unmasking-allegations\/\">James Clapper<\/a>\u2014a man who was nearly charged for perjury for lying to Congress\u2014signed a letter saying that the laptop \u2018has the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While not directly in Durham\u2019s purview\u2014although who knows, since so much these days is interconnected\u2014this is the kind of thing the special counsel may be calling to America\u2019s, and the world\u2019s, attention.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s literally in his hands to steer our ship of state back to the rule of law. If not him, who? Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz walked up to the edge of truth in his report and then did an about-face before making the obvious conclusions, as if concerned that his Deep State card would be revoked.<\/p>\n<p>The legacy media, so many of whom are deeply implicated in these lies themselves (I worked with some of them and can\u2019t even be near them now, let alone talk to them), will do everything they can to hide or obfuscate this information.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s our job, every one of us, to disseminate it\u2014factually and with a minimum of rancor\u2014as widely as possible as the truth emerges.<\/p>\n<p>We can also pray for Durham. Another verse from Mahalia won\u2019t hurt.<\/p>\n<h2>A Final Point<\/h2>\n<p>To illustrate just how bad things have become, one of those directly implicated as a liar in the Durham investigation, in case you missed it, is currently our national security adviser, managing the Ukraine situation and presumably keeping an eye on the $40 billion that U.S. taxpayers are now sending the Eastern European nation.<\/p>\n<p>From law professor Jonathan Turley:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor her part, [Hillary] Clinton not only approved using the Alpha Bank claim but helped to portray it as an established fact, tweeting: \u2018Computer scientists have apparently uncovered a covert server linking the Trump Organization to a Russian-based bank.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat claim was then further amplified by one of her campaign advisers,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/jake-sullivan\/\">Jake Sullivan,<\/a> who now serves as President Biden\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/hillary-clinton-approved-dissemination-trump-155927219.html\">national security adviser<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018This could be the most direct link yet between Donald Trump and Moscow,\u201d\u00a0Sullivan declared at the time. \u201cComputer scientists have uncovered a covert server linking the Trump Organization to a Russian-based bank.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Sullivan added that he could \u2018only assume federal authorities will now explore this direct connection between Trump and Russia as part of their existing probe into Russia\u2019s meddling in our elections.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Clearly, Sullivan got his wish.<\/p>\n<p>As I said, pray for Durham.<\/p>\n<p><i>Views expressed in this article are the opinions of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of The Epoch Times.<\/i><\/p>\n<div class=\"author_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"one_author_block round\">\n<div class=\"top_row\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/author-roger-l-simon\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Follow<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Roger L.
