Scott Perry (R-PA) and Andy Biggs (R-AZ) are objecting to their <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/jan-6-committee-subpoenas-kevin-mccarthy-and-four-other-house-republicans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">subpoenas<\/a> from the House select committee investigating the <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/january-6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jan. 6<\/a> Capitol riot. <\/p>\n<p>The committee had sought testimony from the duo by Tuesday regarding their alleged involvement in efforts to subvert the <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/2020-elections\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2020 election<\/a>, but the pair sent letters to the committee objecting to those subpoenas Thursday, sources told <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/05\/26\/politics\/gop-reps-object-subpoena\/index.html?utm_term=link&#038;utm_content=2022-05-26T16%3A32%3A05&#038;utm_source=twCNNp&#038;utm_medium=social\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That this illegitimate body leaked their latest charade to the media ahead of contacting targeted members is proof once again that this political witch hunt is about fabricating headlines and distracting Americans from their abysmal record of running America into the ground,&#8221; Perry <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepScottPerry\/status\/1524819194935660544?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1524819194935660544%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.washingtonexaminer.com%2Fnews%2Fjan-6-committee-subpoenas-kevin-mccarthy-and-four-other-house-republicans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweeted<\/a> last week in response to the subpoena. <\/p>\n<p><b><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/jim-jordan-fires-back-at-jan-6-panel-subpoena-with-list-of-demands\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">JIM JORDAN FIRES BACK AT JAN. 6 PANEL SUBPOENA WITH LIST OF DEMANDS<\/a><\/b> <\/p>\n<p>Both Perry and Biggs were <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/jan-6-committee-subpoenas-kevin-mccarthy-and-four-other-house-republicans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">subpoenaed earlier this month<\/a> alongside House Minority Leader <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/chris-christie-argues-voters-just-dont-care-about-mccarthy-tapes\">Kevin McCarthy<\/a>, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), and Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL). The committee sought voluntary cooperation from the congressmen, but they declined. McCarthy has been coy about whether he would comply with the subpoena <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/05\/12\/jan6-committee-subpoenas-mccarthy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">but stressed<\/a> his belief the committee was targeting political opponents. Brooks <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.al.com\/news\/2022\/05\/mo-brooks-charges-jan-6-committee-is-seeking-to-hurt-his-senate-bid.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">similarly dismissed<\/a> the committee as a witch hunt following the subpoena. Jordan <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/jim-jordan-fires-back-at-jan-6-panel-subpoena-with-list-of-demands\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fired back<\/a> at the panel Wednesday, listing a bevy of demands for the committee to win his compliance. <\/p>\n<p>Twenty former House Republicans urged the five subpoenaed congressmen to comply with the requests in a letter obtained by <i>Politico<\/i>. Signatories to the letter included former Reps. Joe Walsh (R-IL) and Reid Ribble (R-WI). <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe recognize it is rare for a congressional investigative body to subpoena sitting lawmakers. We also recognize that the subject of this inquiry is unprecedented in American history,\u201d the <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/minutes\/congress\/05-26-2022\/ex-house-rs-say-comply\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">congressmen said<\/a>. \u201cA full and honest accounting of the attack and its causes is critical to preventing future assaults on the rule of law and American institutions \u2014 and ensuring that we all can move forward.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The <i>Washington Examiner<\/i> reached out to representatives for the Jan. 6 committee, Perry, and Biggs for comment. <\/p>\n<p><b><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/b> <\/p>\n<p>When faced with similar noncompliance from other potential witnesses in the past, the panel has recommended Congress use its contempt power. Congress has voted to hold Mark Meadows, Steve Bannon, Peter Navarro, and Dan Scavino <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/ex-trump-aides-peter-navarro-and-dan-scavino-held-in-contempt-of-congress\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in contempt<\/a> for failing to comply with the committee&#8217;s requests. So far, Bannon is the only one to have been <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/stephen-k-bannon-indicted-contempt-congress\">indicted on contempt charges<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The committee is set to conduct <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/jan-6-committee-schedules-rare-public-hearings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">public hearings<\/a> starting next month as it wraps up its inquiry.
